Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

Why'd you pick your user name?

Well, my name is Emily. And the "SteelJaw" part is because I have a form of Arthritis in my jaw and am going to need surgery this spring to correct my bite. So the Steel part is just because it's ironic. :)

I've used "Irish Eyes" everywhere I go online since 1996. It started when I purchased membership in a graphical chat world called "The Palace". I didn't have any reason for choosing the name, except that it sounded nice, and I think I was listening to a song of that name when it came time to register a username, there. I added the "Mrs.Z" to my name when I married my husband, who has used "Zwack deMolay" as his username since sometime in 1987, I believe. Over time, he shortened it to just "Zwack", which is what he went by when I first met him. We met on The Palace in 1998--me here in Oregon, and he in Scotland (he immigrated here after our marriage in Edinburgh in 1999). Even our crystal wedding glasses are engraved with our online usernames :).

I like symmetry and alliteration (repeating of consonant sounds), along with other literary devices.
This is a shortened version of one or two screen names that I have had since the 1980's.
v-t-s v-t-s = vetus vates = pronounced : vaytoos vahteez
Which just happens to have a meaning in latin.
vetus = old, aged, ancient
vates = poet, bard, prophet, soothsayer, seer

C'est poesie, non?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for the explanation!!

I've been trying for AGES to figure out what your username means. All I could find Googling is YOU in other forums! LOL! I KNEW it must mean something cool or have some cool story behind it. Now I know. Woot!

Well mine is simple Culebra is the Spanish word for snake, also my nickname in my teens when i still lived in Puerto Rico because i always owned snakes and its also the name of one of my favorites keys off the island of PR. 85 is just the year i came into this world. lol simple

I was going for Sin because that's actually my nickname, but I needed to add another letter for the minimal of 4, so I just added the next letter in my name and got Sine.

Daenerys is a character from a favorite book series of mine, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The TV series based on the books is airing in April on HBO and goes by the title A Game of Thrones and I am soooo excited! I think its time to reread the books ;)

So not original here couldn't use Susan it was taken so went with susang. First letter of last name. Although I may change it to something clever

I'm the reason Susan couldn't use her first choice. I wanted to just be me and was lucky enough to be one of the first members to sign up so was able to get my first choice.

Oneiro- is the combining form of the Greek word oneiros, meaning "dream". Genesis is of course the Greek word meaning "origin" or "source". So essentially I am calling myself the origin or source of dreams. Deep, right?

It's borrowed from the terms used to describe substances which produce spiritual experiences, such as "entheogens" (producing "entheogenesis", or an experience of the source of "God within" [en- meaning in or within and theo- meaning God) and "entactogens" (producing "entactogenesis" -- to touch [entacto-] the source). I'm fascinated by the religious, mystical and spiritual and also by the ancient Greek language, which I hope someday to learn.

I don't consider myself to be the dullest tack in the box, but you guys make my brain hurt. :D

I'm lovin' all the stories! User names can be so mysterious. It's nice to know what's behind them.

This thread has been so interesting because it's showing me how I will make a surface judgment and stick to it without really questioning it. It's kinda cool to hear the "real" reasons behind people's user names, and realize how off base I am!

Like..
At the time of joining I had pet rats and cornsnakes. I no longer have pet rats, but I now have ratsnakes. So ratsncorns could apply to either :)

I have always visualized ratsnakes and cornsnakes rather than rats! Maybe it is because of your user picture though.. and I suppose I wasn't too off base. :p

Your name is constantly reminding me of the suffrage movement. I'm not crazy, i think it's because of this movie.

Wow, just realized that I've never actually read your name because I'm always too distracted by your beautiful avatar!

oooo man im hungry!!!! hell yeah.....man i want some tostones or bacalaitos from piñones!!! lmao let me stop i dont wanna high jack the thread...lol

Mine used to be Edicius when I was a kid, and of course, find me a 14 year old girl chatting online who ISN'T suicidal?!? lol! So when I survived those horrible teen years and met my now husband 13 years ago I wanted a new name.

I was REALLY in to great danes so I tried of course for "gr8dnlvr" = great dane lover, but of course it was taken. AOL suggested putting an initial in front of it or about a zillion numbers behind it. I can NEVER remember numbers so I chose the my "boyfriends" last name initial. Well of course it didn't take long for it to become MY last name initial!

So there it is - "p" gr8dnlvr!

I like what someone on here thought it was. Something to do with being "pg" rated! lol!

Rebecca

Great thread! I'd love to change mine to Tom Tuttle, my favorite character played by John Candy! It's been my signature for a long time.

I KNEW I knew that name from somewhere. Those books are on the shelf behind me somewhere...Maybe I'll read them again...just to get to know you better.;)
