I was told recently that it's a bad idea to keep snakes or other reptiles because if you don't put them into a viv they would escape. That's why dogs and cats are better pets.
My answer to this? I told him to put his front door open and watch what his dog does. I'm pretty sure that the average dog would runaway if you don't call it back.

Do any of you guys have got such a crazy comments on why it's bad to have a snake/reptile/insect as pet?

PS: I know a snake is a reptile :crazy02:

I never had one of those types...But a few people I know will not step into my room.

PS:My snakes are in my room...

^ Some people have certain reptiles that free roam houses. I know some people let chams free roam, as well as well as large toilet trained lizards (iguanas, tegus, ect).

I've never really had to deal with that (Except my mom thinking anyone who keeps or breeds even endangered hots are stupid), and I always let guests (like cable guys) that absolutely have to go into my room that I have reptiles and rats, but I also let them know they're securely in their bins.

My wife is the same way, she doesn't see why I love rattle snakes. I think they are fascinating... Though, she did say that once we move and have a building separate from the house for my snakes, that I can have whatever I want, as long as the cage and building have locks on them. I do not plan on getting anything extravagant, but I would like one rattle snake. They are absolutely fascinating, and if it were legal to import one, I would get a copperhead and a dusky pygmy.

That is funny :D You CAN train a dog to stay inside, but eventually hes ganna have to go potty, so its either in the house or outside lol.

I can see pros and cons of both, how ever I would say reptiles are easier to keep.
