Unfortunately, I flat out refuse to believe anything published or produced by PETA. It doesn't look good for that dude in that video, but I simply will not believe anything published by PETA because PETA has never published anything truthful.

Find me a video with the same footage produced by someone reputable or at least by someone without a known private agenda against all pet distribution, and I'll rant about it with you. But coming from PETA, this is just more BS propoganda...
 
I just went against my best judgment and watched this thing. It is obvious that everything "investigated" (I.E. pieced together to make things look worse) was completely taken out of context. If you listen closely you can tell how the "conversations" were spliced together to make things sound bad, and of course you have the PETA commentary in text to lead you to think that something is what it is obviously not. Hooray for D level film production.
 
The guy is probably not the best person to keep reptiles but i also think things seem much worse because they are taken out of context..
 
The guy is probably scum, with the things they show him doing. On the other hand, PETA is scum, and it wouldn't suprise me at all if it was found that they scripted the whole thing, which would mean ( of course ) that PETA was actually the abuser.

The dude in the video evidently has some issues. I don't think anyone is arguing that he is guiltless, faultless, or innocent...just that PETA is not a good model for laying ANY accusations against any other individual or organization for ANY wrongdoing.
 
Please pardon my stupidity but why does everyone hate PETA? I did read in kathy love's corn snake guide that they are trying to take away our rights to own reptiles... is that why?
 
I hate them mostly because they're two faced hypocrites. Just don't give your dog to them to find it a new home if you have to move.

Lots of reasons. Their propoganda is based on falsehoods, myths, and lies. Their agenda is self-serving. Their view of "animal rights" places animals as equal to or greater than humans. Their tactics are guerrilla in nature. They attack conservationists with baseless claims. They seek to end the ownership of ALL pets. They seek to end all hunting and fishing. They use shock tactics and ignorance to drum up support from those that do not look beyond the surface of their claims. And they are generally self-serving, self-righteous scam artists that use the pity and love that people feel for animals and their pets against them.

Never argue with a PETA member about hunting. It's worst than arguing about religion. I went to Cabellas, in order to buy myself a deer tag for the upcoming season, and I was stopped after I bought the tag by a PETA member, claiming I was a murderer. Being confused of this accusation, I attempted to talk reason. I felt like I brought up good points, but this member had other thoughts.

1) It's my hobby, and it's allowed.
2) They release tags for a reason. Populations of animals starve to death every winter because we have, ruined their habitat.
3) If I kill a deer, thats food for me, and one less deer on the road to get hit by a vehicle.

That was still not good enough for this member, of course. Repeating the same thing, he brought up that I'm torturing the animal for shooting it, (see my reason number 3..) and that it should live because its just WRONG. In the end, I just had to apologize, and explain that we have different views and apparently we just can't get along.

When a PETA member confronts you, just drop the topic and walk away. All they want is to get a reaction out of you, and try to prove that they're right.

I wholeheartedly agree.
 
Naturally I have to be against them anyway because I own mouse-eating snakes haha. That's 2 things they apparently have problems with. Yeah animals should be treated with respect but these nut-jobs obviously have taken it too far.

There's a reason animals live longer as pets. Less exposure to disease, no predators, no competition, less stress (depending on the owner). There are a few downsides to captivity but they are far outnumbered by benefits IMO.

You're preaching the choir, here, my friend. I doubt seriously that you will find many on this forum that finds themselves in agreement with any of PETA's philosophies beyond surface similarities, such as it's not nice to abuse animals and that they deserve to be loved and respected...

If you look around, many of us here are staunch conservationists. We hunt, we fish, we trap, we kill, we eat, we study, we observe, we love, and we respect all of our natural world and it's creatures. Groups like PETA often fail to realize that there is a HUGE difference between conservation and preservation, and that proper conservation means some animals must die be it by natural causes or predation...human predation included. They forget that some animals, like cows, have been domesticated for so long that truly wild populations don't even occur in 95% of the world anymore, and that they would fail altogether as a species if not for humans and their blasted animal husbandry techniques. And they never acknowledge that large prey mammals, like deer, elk, caribou, antelope, etc must have culling by humans in order to maintain healthy populations.

I don't like PETA. I don't like what they preach, don't like what they stand for, and don't like their idea of "research". But what I hate most about them is their incessant ability to lure in support from individuals blinded by "Don't you love animals?", and incapable of seeing past the silver sham.
 
What urks me the most is their hypocrisy, out one side of their mouths they talk about how domestic animals aren't fit to fend for themselves or ruin local ecosystems when released and all the horrors that go along with that when irresponsible people dump them. Yet they, the top brass anyway, will flat say that the goal of their campaign is for animals to be totally free and for humans to have no interaction with animals of any kind. Yet very few people seem to get the fact that to accomplish that, you would either need to release all domestic animals, with all the havoc that would entail, or you would be talking about systemic genocide of 1000s of domestic animal species. You shouldn't abuse animals because they have the same rights as humans, but it's okay to work toward the genocide of all of these same other type humans?
 
I was just venting about how twisted that logic is about how PETA believing keeping pets isn't "ethical" or whatever. Keeping a pet is a symbiotic relationship, something natural. The animal benifits by having a longer life span, less stress, food, a safe home, etc. and the pet benefits the human by bringing joy. They always say that petting a dog or cat lowers blood pressure. Whatever there are all kinds of nut-jobs and they aren't going anywhere so I guess we just have to live with them. Unless they start taking away rights, then it would be a problem.
