Especially for Rich Z. - Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Since I KNOW how much you love squirrels, I thought you might enjoy this email I received today - or maybe NOT, haha!

Excerpt from Dr. Jon's Dog Crazy Newsletter:

Believe it or not, today is Squirrel Appreciation Day. This is yet ANOTHER holiday I had not heard of. What do you know about squirrels? Here are a few facts.

1. According to the National Wildlife Federation, when a squirrel hides its food, it pretends to bury it a few times before choosing a final hiding spot.

2. There are more than 300 different species of squirrels!

Dogs and cats both LOVE squirrels. Well - "love" may not be the right word. I know both dogs and cats that are absolutely fascinated by them.

To celebrate Squirrel Appreciation Day, here is a favorite homemade treat that you can make for squirrels - all you need is a pinecone and some peanut butter. Spread the peanut butter on the pinecone, hang it from a tree, and your work is done.

He omitted the last step - the one about waiting with firearms at the ready when the little creatures come to enjoy trap you have set for them!

Haha I can see Rich all in camo. Squirrel Sniping.

.30 caliber is pretty much overkill for squirrels, but heck, why not? I've thought of taking out one of my .50 calibers because those suckers will hide on the opposite side of the tree when they see you. Wouldn't help them much with a .50 caliber....

Actually I have only seen one squirrel around here in months now. The bird feeders have all kinds of birds flocking around them and that is normally a siren's song to any squirrels in the area.

Anyway, "Squirrel Appreciation Day"..... Hah! That IS funny..... I wonder if Halmark carries cards for this event?

I heart squirrels. I envy them, their life is so simple, scamper around and hide their nuts. They are so cute, they are all over our campus and I love them.

I used to like them too. Until they started killing my timber bamboos. Unfortunately for them, I like my bamboo more than I like squirrels, and they forced me to choose between them. :uzi:

I'd trade squirrels for feral cats, or even rabbits, any day!! I mean, I like the squirrels more.
