those crazy rich Brits ...

tsst

Deuce is watching!
Heard on the radio this morning some interesting money facts about sports. In the US the two top teams in baseball, payroll wise, are NY Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. When those two teams play there is a combined total of $380 million dollars of salary running around the field. The two top football teams are Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. When they meet there is a combined $350 million dollars running around.

Now those crazy rich Brits. When the two Manchester soccer teams meet there is a combined total of $850 million dollars running around the field. WOW I would have guessed the NFL but would have been wrong by a long shot.

this is just a guess but its because soccer is known world wide america is really one of few the dont get into it and foot ball is specific to north america and a couple small teams in europe

Could be I guess I wouldn't have figured it though the way the NFL and MLB throw money around. Then add the fact that Beckham came to the US to play soccer. Can't remember the name but there is one player on one of the Manchester teams that makes $40 million a year.

There's a salary cap in the NFL, otherwise you'd see some serious coin out there. No cap in MLB, however there's something called 'revenue sharing'. Not quite sure exactly how it works, but teams spending a lot of money over the league average (like the Yankees) pay money to franchises who are not spending a lot of money on their roster. Kinda like a salary cap, but kinda not. If it were not for these factors, I think you would see North American franchises spending unbelievable amounts of money to try to build championship teams.

Hate to burst a bubble, but Manchester United is largely owned by Michael Glazer - an American and owner of the Buccaneers. And Manchester City is owned by an Abu Dhabi investment company.

Think you'll find the big bucks (and a lot of us "crazy Brits" think it's obscene as well!) for soccer is coming from overseas. The Russians like a dabble as well.

I did not know that bitsy. I just heard the info on morning sports talk radio. Mike and Mike in the Morning. I guess I was just surprised at how much difference there actually was in the totals.

Also I use the term 'crazy Brits' with the utmost affection. I absolutely completely enjoyed every minute I spent in England, Scotland, Wales. And I really enjoyed the friendly people.

I remember my first night in country. About 6 of us went to a little pub in Chipping Norton. After they found out we were visiting Americans they wouldn't let us buy another pint all night. Awesome small town folk!

Absolutely no offence taken. We're an odd bunch, even to ourselves sometimes! Good to know we showed you proper hospitality.

I can't remember a single time in nearly a year I spent there that the locals were not super nice. Now France, that's another story. :grin01:

To be fair, since the Glazers have been at man united, the club have actually fallen from the greatest money making machine in the world, to 3rd.
So they havent actually improved the club at all or increased incomings a lot, other than price rises for getting into games and shirts maybe.

I dont like it either really, no offense to any other country but the majority of these buyers into the clubs dont know all that much about football. could you imagine the uproar in some Brits brought an NFL team?lol.. that wouldnt go down so well
