Hey all! Long time lurker here..but I saw something in my viv that kinda freaked me out this morning and had to pass it along to you guys.

My little fella successfully shed last night and I was too lazy to remove it from the enclosure, so I decided I'd do it today. I walked in the room and observed Bert (my corn), sheathed inside the skin that he had stripped last night! I'm talking completely encased in the discarded skin and peeking out the head end! The little weirdo has been there all day too..like he's not grossed out about it. So what's the deal? Is there a reason for this? Wonder if he made an effort to do it or was purely accidental. Regardless, it's pretty comical.

I have had it happen before on one of my hatchlings last year. I am not sure how they do it. I don't know if that baby was completely shed then went back into or what. It all happened at night and I found it the next morning.

Maybe they are having a hard time letting go of there old skin. :)

Yeah it happens I have had it happen and I have seen other threads about the same thing. I think they like the closeness of it or maybe it gives off a scent who knows but your snake is not a weirdo.

That is so wild. Well, you know how they have a penchant for getting into small spaces. Maybe it's like a little snake skin tunnel to them....

I wonder if they "know" the shed skin comes off of them..like maybe they think it's a new toy that you put in their viv and they just have to explore it.....I dunno lol

Funny,
A Fella that goes by "Zorro" on here Posted a pic the other night..his Ghost Bloodred done the same thing....I belive the thread was titled "Silly ghost bloodred"

That is so freaking weird.
I've never had a snake do that personally... I'm glad you got a pic of it!! That is just wild. I guess old shed is a perfectly shaped hide!!

Yup, I even posted a thread about it. There was a tear in in somewhere and she crawled in while she was finishing shedding :p She managed to get out of it on her own.

I imagine in her itty bitty snake brain it went something like "Ahhh, so nice to get this tight coat off. Ooo, a new hide!"

perhaps because it is a scent of a snake, (as they can't smell or taste themselves) they thought it was another one, and so decided to move around "next to it" to snuggle as some cohabitating corns do, and actually went inside, remeber a snakes eyesight is like a humans.
thats the only think I could suggest

meant snakes eyesight is NOT like humans lol

My Zar went back into his skin with his nose in the tail end. He's a snow so I didn't notice the shed skin was occupied when I grabbed it. He got so freaked out he musked the tank like a snake bomb as he writhed. I ripped the shed to get him out and he bolted up my arm into my hair. Funniest snake moment ever!

Lmao...like he shed so well the first time he wanted to see if he could do it again!
