GFP Leucistic Axolotls

RobbiesCornField

Bring it on.
GFP is for "Green Fluorescent Protein". The axolotls have had that genome introduced (originally from jellyfish) onto a gene that is constantly expressed throughout the life of the animal. It's similar to the process in which glowing Danio's and mice have come to light (pardon the pun).

So without further ado, Phobos and Deimos!

That is both strange and amazing all wrapped into one! Does the glowing only express itself in leucistic types or can any colour morph have it? I'd assume that leucistic shows it off the best, but would their offspring carry it as well?

I remember hearing about glowing guppies a while ago, but this is the first I've heard of it for Axolotls. Are there any health issues because of it?

They are available in albino as well. The gene can be expressed in all forms, but the albinos and leucistics tend to show it off the best.
I haven't done much research into breeding them to find out whether or not it is heritable, but given the price I paid for these, I would assume that it is, as they'd be quite a bit more expensive because each one would need to be genetically modified.
There are currently no known health risks, the same as with the fluorescent mice and zebra danios that this genome has been introduced to as well.

They are incredible, and I love the lunar themed names...

Thanks! I thought their "glow" deserved a cosmic name.
