Since When was animal abuse legal?

I read this thread. Lavender you bring up interesting points. Sometimes people are too blinded by emotion to critically think through things. I sometimes manage to separate my emotion briefly to analyze things through all perspectives.

I watched some of the video, got semi-bored and turned it off. Could I do rodeo myself? No I could not. Do I think it's all wrong? Not in the least. As mentioned before, Rodeos hold historical significance it's not just "sport" and "animal cruelty". I don't have a problem with hunting either. I don't hate fishermen. These people actually care more about animals than most people in this world.

I hear constantly remarks about "the cove". The video with the japanese fishermen killing the pod of dolphins. It's brutal, yep, it sucks yep. At the same time- this is tradition. These people are an island nation- they live off the sea, that is what island nations traditionally do. It isn't our right to tell them to stop. We are no better with the way we butcher our commercial meat products than they are with dolphins.

Do yourself a favor, go look up some of the videos of how animals are skinned alive for their coats. Go look up the video of the soldier kicking the puppy. Go look up the video of some foreign guy dropping a dog off a bridge. Go look up the more recent video of 2 teenage kids lighting a puppy on fire. THAT is animal cruelty.

That being said- Lavender, where do you find the view of "animals have no souls"? What leads you to that conclusion. Who is to say that we have souls? Do we even understand the concept of what a soul is or how it works? No, we don't have a damn clue about what a soul is, how it works, where it comes from, who has it who doesn't. It's something far beyond our mental capabilities.

I disagree with abortion sure, but what gives you the right to prioritize someones life over an animals life? What gives you the power to decide what is worth living, what is worth dieing, what has souls, what has no soul. I can sit and list off a ton of people- who I could not say I would choose their life over the life of a cow, puppy, snake, spider... Just sayin, you probably shouldn't make so many assumptions on something you have 0 idea about- something no one has any idea about.

Sola Scriptura.

Oh lord. Even as a Christian, I still see what you believe as a bit "outlandish". Of course, the way you come into this thread so hostile - goes to show how much you take what you believe to heart.

And we move one step closer to what PETA stands for.

People
Eating
Tasty
Animals

You need to look into how the food you eat is raised and grown.

Love the Fatman

Mr. Lavender has been asked by Rich to discontinue any further discussion of religion. Please don't engage him on that subject.

To clarify: (directed at lavender)

I don't have any problem with anyone discussing religion, EXCEPT for you, here on this site.

So it will cease. NOW. Any further posts by you on this topic will be an implied acceptance on your part of marching orders right out of the door here.

And let's not have a sudden influx of reported posts about it, either. Susan and I are keeping track of this thread.

And another thing. Bleeding heart mushy feel goodism is what lead to dead horses being "properly" disposed of instead of being used to make glue and dog food. Thus driving the price for any kind of rat food through the roof.

My husband did bull riding in high school. He ended up worse off for it than any of the bulls he covered, or otherwise. He gave me a list of his injuries once, I couldn't believe he did that for fun. I must be a wuss, but it would only take one steer horn to the head to make me call it in.

As for the process of giving and receiving souls, I am ignorant of quantum physics so I wont go into the details, But I do believe that all living things have some form of quintessence much alike to the substance known as souls. I also believe that not all people have souls.

How do you discern which people do and do not have souls?

Like This?
How do you discern which people do and do not have souls?

Lavender the living organisms with or without souls thing is another 2,011 yr old circular argument that I don't have the time or interest to address.

While enciting drama seems to bring you pleasure and satisfaction and feeling of self worth or whatever, it's been done so much that it's become dull.

Oh...I see. So is there a "ban" on this topic?

Only if your handle on this site is "lavender".

I'm pretty much convinced that he is trying his hand at being a troll on this site, but he doesn't quite have enough rope wrapped around his neck for me to yank the trap door open underneath him. So I will apply the pressure to either get him to get off of that path, or just take the plunge and give me the incentive I need to flush him.

Back on subject. I can't remember who said it because it was a few pages ago. I do enjoy rodeos, and the one here in Denver seems very well controlled as far as what I've seen. That being said, the SHARK videos (which I know nothing about the organization) do show cruelty. I try to use common sense and know that you can't judge a group as a whole based off of one person(s) actions. It's like saying all Germans are bad because of Hitler. Or all "skin heads" (I don't know if that is a faux pas term) are criminals. Sure, it's possible that there are more Hitlers living in Germany, but the majority of Germans are your average joes with both good and bad qualities. Heck, maybe Hitler even had a good side. Same with anyone else.

That being said, the rodeo showed in the video isn't a great one. I don't agree with treating cattle like that. I don't agree with doing it for sport. Back in the day, there was a purpose to it besides earning some points. I don't agree with the shock prods or the tail twisting. I don't believe in stressing out the animals like that or hurting them so.

My basic point :)

I apologize for such a contriversial subject matter. I get easily angered when it comes to animals.

Unfortunately, reptiles are not covered under animal cruelty laws, at least I don't think they are.

I recently read a news article, about a guy who got arrested for animal cruelty for biting his ball python... I can't seem to find it, or remember exactly where I saw it at...

While they are under the law, people often ignore abuse to any animals besides dogs, cats and horses. Most only care about our furry friends, rather than our scaly ones :(. Even so, cows seems to get less attention as most people consider them to be food and "it doesn't matter what happens to them, they're going to be killed anywayd"
