Wierdest thing youve ever eaten?

Wow I'm surprised how many of you have eaten bugs and pet/animal food LOL. You guys are brave.

I can probably say that I've eaten most of the "weird" foods everyone else has mentioned, not counting the bugs and food that isn't really meant for human consumption. I don't think most of the food I've eaten are weird because, even though I was born/raised in America, I grew up eating a lot of asian and islander food, which is considered "weird" by western standards. I guess it goes to show what the demographics are for this forum

However, the weirdest thing I've ever eaten is probably grass. I've tasted cricket and dog treats, but I don't really eat (chew and swallow) stuff that isn't human food haha.

Mmm.... probably sand. Ate it whenever I got a chance as a child... Also ate rhododendron leaves often, which is funny since they're supposed to be poisonous. XD OH, and toilet paper. I loved the texture until I was about... seven? Meh.

Taste has never bothered me, but texture is a huge thing for me.... I can and will eat anything with a dry texture, but certain textures, I just can't get down. :p

I am not very adventurous trying new food, although I have had a few things such as gator. I once ate an ant by mistake. And many years ago, I just had to try the Pretty Pet food (can't remember if it was for iguanas or dragons) because it smelled exactly like Fruit Loops - just had to know if it tasted like them. It doesn't! It wasn't bad, but not sweet at all; actually not much flavor of any kind.

Horse meat sushi in Japan.

Also had a major thing for dog biscuits when I was little!

I'm that kid who will eat everything and anything so most of these are because i was dared to or my friends wanted to how far I would go...
Meal worms(Bacon and cheddar flavor)
Crickets(plain)
Lolly Pop(cricket, scorpion and meal worm.)
And my friends thought it would be funny to put a mouse tail under the peanut butter on my banana YUCK

What are cherrystones on the half shell?

Almost every super market over here sells smoked horse meat, cut thin as carpaccio, to eat on a loaf of bread (it is called 'rookvlees', (smoke meat) more regularly made of cow meat). I also ate horse steak, kangaroo, crocodile, African springbok, deer, pheasant, buffalo burger, fried squid rings, and as a teen most of the elements of rat food (dried St. John's-bread, popped wheat, some unknown stuff, probably dried carrot and such) but not the pellets. Popped wheat and St. John's-bread actually tasted good enough to enjoy as a nibble.

I can't imagine eating canned dog or cat food..... yikes! I saw a show on TV where peopel had to eat canned cat food and they really gagged all the time. I'm pretty sure I did try dry cat food and dog treats too sometime, not sure though.

Ive not eaten half what you all have.I do know I would not eat canned cat or dog food, mouse tails are not on the menu here either(LOL).I have tried bird pellets once, they smelled just like fruit loops but they dont taste like anything.

ooooohh...ok I guess probably the weirdest thing I've Ever eaten is $. when I was a little kid I ate $ for some strange reason. I ate dollar bills & change...I can remember doing it,but I'm not sure why I did-that & paper.......I'm pretty sure I had pica LOL

I LOVE smoked horse meat. I think Americans would freak out over some of the ^product we have here in European supermarkets. Just like we (and them) would freak out over some items in Arabian or Asian supermarkets.

Regardless of taste, the sale of horse meat for human consumption is banned here in the US along with dog, cat and many rodents (rabbit being the notable exception). It's odd to me how food taboos develop in some countries and not in others. I guess if you want to try different things you just have to travel to the locale where it's available or go without.

Maybe in the USA horses are valued more since they are still being used for herding and stuff? When I was a young girl I was into horses a lot, I definitely did not want to eat horse meat back then.

It was a big political animal rights thing. I remember a few years ago when it was in the news. I think it was some big emotional thing (as all animal rights publicity is) about the US sending horse meat to China, or maybe it was some other country. The AR people got everyone upset about "noble horses" being used for meat.

Although I have no desire to eat horse meat (or other meat I am not used to), they seem pretty similar biologically to cows, so I would guess it wouldn't be that different. I don't see logically that there would be much difference morally eating one over the other. If a particular horse had more value for work, riding, or as a pet, then I doubt that it would be used as meat. But if it had no value for those other uses, and considering how expensive it is to keep one, then I would guess it would be euthanized anyway. So it seems silly not to utilize it for meat, at least. I really hate waste.

I have even thought that it is such a shame to waste all of the euthanized cats and dogs. Instead of incinerating the remains, maybe they could be used to feed zoo animals, mink farms (if we even still have mink farms) or at least composted. At least their deaths would not be as wasted as they are now.

kathy> My husband always says he wishes they would send the euthanized dog & cat meat packaged to other countries. it seems like such a waste for all those pounds of meat to go uneaten, when not every country has the same feelings about eating those animals. It would feed alot of people.

I think it's different for pets. I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing somebody is eating a dog that's been my best friend for 10+ years. It's like said in a different topic which i can't remember the name of at the moment. "You wouldn't feed your dead pet hamster to your snakes because it feels wrong." And i think this would be so for most people.

And street dogs and cats wouldn't be suitable for meat because of their illnesses, but so would euthanized pets be...

Anyway on the horses, they are bred for meat, not to be somebody's pet. I think it's just the same as cows that are bred for meat, or pigs. But i don't have any emotional relation to any horse so i guess i'm biased.

I would be all for that. I would feed a dead pet to something else, even if I might not be able to eat it myself. I just hate waste. I know I might might be emotional about what I eat myself. But I try to be as logical about it as possible, so I could use anything, even a body, to avoid wasting it. To me, it would be more loving to make death contribute to other life, than feeding it to worms and maggots in the ground (although I guess they have to eat, too).

My father gave his body to the local university as his ultimate recycling act. When I'm finished with it, I'll let mine go for soylent green for all I care, lol!

many cats & dogs are euthanized in the U.S. every day,not because the were ill or someone's pet who became old-they are put to sleep because the shelters are too full from people backyard breeding or not having their pets fixed then ditching the babies in a shelter assuming they will be adopted out. He just figures it's a waste since they were already being put down for no good reason anyway not to use the meat to feed people in countries who don't have those same feelings about dogs & cats.--or horse, for that matter

EXACTLY!

If they could be euthanized in such a way that it would be humane, yet not dangerous for people or other animals to eat, then I would want to see the bodies used for the highest benefit possible.
