Does Layne Labs vacuum seal their mice?

Trying to find some mice today, and The Mouse Factory is out of adults.

Thanks for the info.! I also LOVE rats. My friend's 10-year old daughter BEGGED for a rat for Christmas, her Dad finally said yes Saturday, and I got the priviledge of picking out two baby rats this morning for her!
I have a mixed colony of 4 females and two rescued neutered males, one of which was a lab rat that had psyc. experiments done on him. (nothing terrible.)
I'll try to get pics. up tonite!

The reason I started to breed my own feeders was 5 years ago when I was given a childerens python. He was eating f/t hoppers. I was buying them frozen at Petland, and was sad because some had bloody noses/ears, some where coated in urine, and some where even freezer burnt. I decided that I would rather make my own and that way I would know first hand that they died a humane death. I worked in a shelter and every animal that we euthinized was treated with respect and died a fast pain free death.

I wish rats where legal to own here I'd love to have a few. They are the reason why I started keeping pet mice, if I can't get rats mice are the next best thing :)

I have had a very bad experience with rats in the past. When I was about 8, my grandma got me a pet rat which seemed pretty nice at first. The first time I reached into the cage, he bit my finger about 3 times! When I got him home, he bit me so hard I could see the bone in my finger! So I don't have that much sympathy for rats. Although I still would not want to feed live rats to my snakes.

MOST are not like that at all!

And there are reasons I can think of why the one you got did bite. They can bite out of fear, or too many hormones, or because they are such social creatures they can go psychotic if forced to live alone.

So far in my lifetime I have owned 18 pet rats, and only one was a biter. And he wasn't a bad boy really. After I understood his issues we got along just splendidly...

I totally agree. I've had literally dozens of rats in the past 10 years or so between myself and my daughter, and we've only had one biter, she was a pet store rat that was a fear-biter because she hadn't been handled.
My rats will even take treats out of my hands gently, which I wouldn't recommend! They are so sweet and misunderstood.

I should not say this, but everytime I see your nic all I can think of is that song.....(b-b-b-bird bird bird, the bird is the word.....)

Our rats take treats from our hands all of the time. For the gentler ones, they are allowed to lick applesauce/yogurt off our fingers. I've never had a problem with it, and we've had 16 rats in 5 years! Most were rescues btw, so they were already pretty old when we got them.

I've never owned any rats, but growing up, some friends did and those were the sweetest creatures. They would ride around on your shoulder.

If only rodents had no odor, I think I'd get one.
