Javan Locality Red-Tailed Green Ratsnake (Gonyosoma oxycephalum)-FEEDING PICS 4/26

Carinata

Ever Evolving Exotics
Over the last couple months, I’ve been building up my snake collection. After I started breeding Fat-Tails, I just didn’t have the time to interact with my snakes like I wanted to. Now that my business is very steady, I’m making pretty good money, and I just picked up some new display cages and racks, I figured it was time to buy those snakes I always wanted as a young kid but never had the money for until now. I picked up my Cat-Eyed Snakes, and they’re great. I always wanted a Red-Tailed Green Ratsnake (Gonyosoma oxycephalum), and they were always sort of expensive. Well we just got in a shipment of animals at work and there was nothing I really was into. Basically, when I came in the day the shipment, I overlooked the Gonyos, and didn’t see their tubs in the rack. When we were packing up, I found them, and flipped out! We got in 2 of the typical green phase animals and one very nice Javan locality, which is essentially a grey animal with some yellow highlights on the head. I was debating picking it up, knowing it was WC, and my quarantine room only has Fat-Tails in there and I do that on purpose. I figured out some logistics, and figured I would just put him in my living room in the basement (my Dad’s basement is sort of like an apartment, so I have my own area down there). I’m never in the living room anyway because I spend most of the time in the gecko room. I told my boss I wanted the Javan phase, and he gave me an awesome deal. After getting home from White Plains around 1:30AM, I set up an old rack with a 6qt tub, while he soaked. I got him all set up and I’m going to leave him alone for a couple days besides daily misting in the mornings and evenings. I know this guy is W.C., but once I get him started feeding, I’ll get fecals done, and likely treat with panacur, and a vet consult. From what I understand these guys like it cool, humid, and tall. So I’m planning on building a nice 3x2x2 cage for him as an adult. I’ve wanted one of these for years, and now I’ve got it. I’ve always been impressed by the sheer size and attitude of these guys and I can’t wait to watch him grow. Here’s a quick picture of him, I’ll update it in a few days once he settles in a bit.

These guys are usually meaner than Beauties! Their similar, but they are much more arboreal than Beauties, although the Javan local, tends to be slightly less arboreal.

Haha! Thanks. I think next I either want a C.B. Mangrove snake, Yellow-Tailed Cribo, or another unique colubrid.

Congrats!!! What a beautiful snake. I hope he does well for you!!

It's a shame how underrated a lot of the less common colubrids are. They're all such incredible snakes! I'm still pining after beauty snakes (seriously, if my next addition isn't a hatchling VBB or a nice Taiwan, I will be very upset!), and lately Rhino rats have begun to catch my eye, too.

We may Kyle! If we do, after I buy one of them, I'll let you know. We haven't imported South America for a while, but we're talking about doing it again before the next White Plains show.

VERY awesome looking snake. They had a few of the normal green looking ones here at a local pet store a few years ago... I always made a point of looking at them when I visited. I wonder if they still have some.... ;-)

I like the typical Greens but I figured I'd mix it up and buy the Javan. We still have one Green available.....

Okay.... Thats Just sexy!! Awesome!!
This is the most sexy snake!

Very pretty snakes David. How is the search for the Heralds? Also, I have always wanted to look into Mangroves but I do not think that I can legally obtain them here in NM. We have some silly rules...

I'm waiting for the Heralds to hatch. I can legally attain Mangroves, as long as I'm not in city limits. Searching like crazy for a pair of C.B. babies.

You may have to settle for WC and start C.B them yourself, from what I understand they are rather hard to find C.B. You could possibly have a corner on the market for a little while.

Got some fresh pictures of him while I was misting last night!
