what are you other non herp related hobbies

I quilt, knit, sew and love to cook and bake, my real passion is our garden and preserving and canning what we grow. My hubby is rebuilding a 55 chevy pick-up. He has done all the work fabricated parts, done the upholstery and lots of other things I know nothing about. He has had the truck for 40 years maybe, longer then he's had me and is the third owner. It is finally running again and next summer he will do a few shows.

I don't collect comic books, but I do love to read them!

My life is pretty busy with work and school right now, but I do love photography and drawing. (I haven't really done any 'real' art lately.) I also LOVE to read; I always read a bit before bed and I like to bring a book with me to school and work so I can have something to read on breaks.

Here's a painting I did last year:

I also sew, but it's a love/hate relationship. I find it very frustrating at times (I'm also still just learning), but I always like the finished product and I love to be able to tell people that I made it myself. I particularly like to make costumes, but I usually need my mom's help for the more complicated parts.

Here are two superhero costumes that were a collaboration between me and my mom:

And here's our family on Halloween last year (my mom made most of these costumes, but I made mine - I'm in the eyepatch!)

I also love dogs. I unfortunately don't have any time right now to do any dog-related activities, but I just generally enjoy taking care of them and training them. I often take two of my dogs to the dog park because they love to chase a tennis ball and interact with the other dogs and people. I'm always very interested in learning about the different breeds and I absolutely love to meet a 'rare' breed in person. I plan to get a Bernese Mountain dog hopefully within a few years.

Here's my pug and my golden retriever:

What a nice thread! I love hearing about everyone's hobbies. :)

Well, probably the most prominent one would be playing, arranging, and writing music for piano.

After that, it would be bowling. My high game is right around 274 with my average being around 210. My dad has bowled four 300 games, and several others above 290. His average is around 260. Lol

I also think I'm rather handy with a camera. Lol. I really love macro photography, and really hope to get a better camera to one day improve my skills.

My only real hobby other than herps is this...

I'm in love with making beaded jewelry. Here's another couple recent pieces I did...

Other than that, I like to go on short hikes with the dogs when possible... Aaand... That's about it. :p

I do enjoy being out and about with a camera and trying to catch an image I really like. I'm no kind of technical expert, I just get lucky sometimes, then have to cudgel my brains working out how some efforts work and some just don't1

So then there are my dogs. Rosie is a Bedlington terrier x whippet I've had from a puppy, she'll be 4 this year. Just after last Christmas I got Bertie from a rescue, he's a working strain Bedlington, 18 months old now. They are total joy! As per their breed history, both have a strong need to RUN! Bertie has more of a chase drive than Rosie, they've both caught rabbits a couple of times but Bertie actually kills his. The rest of the time they just goof around. They eat a raw meaty bones diet and are very healthy on it

And the horses.......I help out my friends in exchange for pony rides! I just haven't got the time to commit to owning and taking care of my own horse, so I really count my blessings that I have great friends

Well, I love to bake and cook, hubby likes to make stuff. But my main hobby other than my snakes are my dogs. Me, my daughter and my mother in law breed and train golden retrievers for obedience competition. At the minute I have 1.2 goldies, my in laws have 0.8! (they have a bigger house than us!)

WOW so many talented people!
I knit, write (trying to get some stuff published) and game. I've been playing World of Warcraft for a bit over 4 years, that's where I met my husband. I also volunteer at my kid's school and am the official question answerer for them among the non-teacher adults. I also love learning. Its kind of a hobby, I'll spend hours or days researching various things of interest on the internet, in the library, or wherever.

I practice/play the violin, go to the gym at least twice a week, play video games, always have a book to read, and putz around on the internet. I'm always trying to learn how to cook different things.

Also:

I do enjoy being out and about with a camera and trying to catch an image I really like. I'm no kind of technical expert, I just get lucky sometimes, then have to cudgel my brains working out how some efforts work and some just don't

Those pictures are amazing!

Read all the time
Gardening- but it's what I do at work (groundskeeper) so I don't have much of a garden at home lol
listen to music
Most of my free time is spent on the herp stuff though, taking care of my reptiles, reading posts here on cs, go out looking for wild snakes, volunteer at herp events, etc :)

i don't really have hobbies, just obsessions and they tend to wax and wane over time, never really gone, but not always so prominent. my one constant is anything horticultural; breeding, growing, designing etc. i should be getting my horticulture degree next fall from csu, debating whether or not i want to get a masters here or get a job first and then start working on my masters. tough decisions. i also read a lot, when i'm not working or doing homework. i'm a really good cook, but a sub par baker. other than that, it's just my animals.

i have a lot of hobbies...i knit (horribly), crochet (i like to make Amigurumi ^-^), LOVE to read, draw occasionally, i can cross-stitch, quilt, sew the odd scrub top here and there. i have a TON of miniatures (mostly for table top games, d&d and warhammer 40k) that i occasionally put together and paint. the problem is, i'm not very consistent. i learn new things and do it for a while then stop...start a new thing, stop...etc. vicious cycle, BUT at least i have things i can fall back on right? lol. i think the ONLY consistent "hobby" i have is world of warcraft...i play that regularly (although you wouldn't know it by my 1 level 85 and 9 other various level toons lol).

and, can't forget my "kids". i love my animals and enjoy spending time with them.

I'm jealous Zombie! I love amigurumi but finding knitting patterns for them are next to impossible and I can't crochet!!

i taught myself to do both :) youtube has a ton of good videos to learn how to crochet. i have found that my tension is always WAY too tight when i knit, and is much easier for me to crochet :) i have found LOTS of cute knit amigurumi patterns, some of which i wish were crochet patterns lol!

Fred, the ONE argument I would make in owning at least TWO guns is, you almost must have a pistol and a rifle! They are hardly even the same tool. And you need each in centerfire and .22, so you can get in cheap fun practice. So that's four. I guess if you have to you could stop at four.
:rofl: Thank you for that! That had me laughing out loud for real. You've convinced me of my next hobby...

I'm a photographer. I do a lot of B&W landscape type stuff, and I also enjoy candid street photography...
