In a normal cage setting, you don't want your hot spot to be over 86. I would recommend a thermostat. What we are debating is "can the animals benefit for having access to a warmer hot spot" but to do this safely, requires a very large, very well-ventilated cage. In the average enclosure, a hot spot in the mid 80's is ideal. Your heat mat will get hotter if not controlled by a thermostat or other device.

I admit i should have looked more into her setup before advising her to do so and for this i do apologize. But imo advising them to force feed is much worse. The snake can get very stressed. And you were worried about my basking spot causing stress.

What does this have to do with them lasting thousands of years? May i ask where you heard this? Was it from the vet? It would make sense for them to digest there meals in a hiding spot considering there are very slow after eating a large meal and vulnerable to predators. Not that they were "meant" to. What exactly would happen if a snake digest a meal faster then the norm?

I also wanna say that the longest my cam has let me take a vid was 2 mins without is canceling.
