So I caught a wild mouse in my garage and fed it to my snake and now I'm left wondering was that a bad idea. I know its too late now but would like some feedback from the more experienced corn snake owners.

In about 2 months, take a poop sample into your reptile vet and get it checked for parasites.
 
Wild mice are likely carrying parasites that can be passed on to your snake. Frozen/thawed mice from a breeder are fed quality food during their life and are kept in a clean environment, so they're very healthy when you get them. They're better for the snake because they ate better food (and not trash or dead animals or whatever else wild mice eat).

What type of parasites would they be checking for? I have not had to take my snake to a vet and that is good since there doesn't seem to be a reptile vet near me :-(
 
The fecal will probably get sent to an outside lab. They look for the same sorts of things they do in mammals: pinworm, giardia, coccidia, etc.

Wow....well this particular mouse has been dining on my cats food in my garage for the better part of 2 months now. I found a vet but they wont take a fecal sample without seeing the snake as well which seems kinds lame. Basically a $300 bill to get a test run which sucks :-(
 
Maybe you can find a lab where you can post in a sample? TO be honest, unless your snake obviously becomes unwell, losing weight etc, I personally wouldn't pay out $300. But I wouldn't risk feeding wild mice again.

Yeah that's for sure I wont ever do it again. The darn mouse fell in my cats water ball and could get out which is only reason I even caught it alive. I found it swimming its heart out and thought why kill it I can feed it to my snake and then later I was thinking wow that may have been a bad idea. I will be keeping and eye on her now and hope she continues to feed as normal and doesn't need to see a vet :-( Very sad and concerned now :-(

Exams where I am cost $60 for reptiles. The fecal test is $40.

And it makes sense to require the exam first. Could you just go up to a hospital and drop off some of your own poo and ask them to run tests on it?
 
My vet, Pat Gauvin, Gainesville, charges a lot less than $300 to see a snake, but I'm sure he'd require an office visit, too.

What Vet is that? I only found one and vet visit was going to be $90 and the test they were going to want to run was going to put the bill easily over $250... :-(
