the Nagini, Monty, Crictor, and Lucifer progression thread!

These were taken July 26th. Nagini will be still but as soon as the camera/phone comes out, it's like she knows and she's off again.

Nagini

Here is a much better photoshoot with Nagini! Still taken with my Samsung Galaxy S4 because that's the best camera that I have, even more than my 14mp point and shoot.

I used the rock wall in front of my yard for these pictures. It was nice because she was at my level if I was crouching on the sidewalk, and if she had fallen, it would have been into a pile of leaves below. But I had one of my kids ready to grab her, though I didn't need to. It was so fun to watch her cling to the rocks!

You have some gorgeous examples of corn snakes!

Thank you! I definitely got the first 4 I wanted. The problem is ... I want more gorgeous examples! But I will be content, I will!

I took a few of Crictor today but he seemed dull to me, so I only took a few. I need to look up when he shed last. These didn't turn out as well because I think I was taking the pics on full auto; forgot to mess with the exposure and whatnot. I am excited about learning how to take better pictures!

Lucifer

A few pictures of Lucifer today. I was again experimenting with the camera and found that an ISO of 800 captures the tongue flicks quite well. I am not as pleased with these as I am of Nagini's pictures, and I really need to spend some time reading about settings, but for now ... Lucifer. Taken with the SGS4.

Trying again with Lucifer!

Lucifer is a very willing snake when it comes to photographs.

He is pictured in a tree, on a fence, on our driveway (in bright sun, the rest are shady), and on my rock wall ledge.

Monty

Monty the amber corn snake shed last night, and I should have taken him out for pictures today but I've been feeling sick, so I just fed him his first hopper (yay!) and did a full clean on his bin and put him back. I did snap this picture of him giving the hopper a hug. He is the most fun snake to watch while eating. He loves to kill his food with enthusiasm!

I realized today that I underestimate my snakes and their eating ability. I am better now with my scale and the Munson plan, but I was sure that the 11 gram hopper was too much for him, and he packed it away quite fast!

Somehow I missed your last update. Lucifer is such a pretty okeetee!

I was feeding my snakes too small of mouse sizes for probably my first year of snake keeping, and now I feel like I'm much better at judging when to move up sizes.

Thanks! Luce is in blue right now, too ... I just love when he sheds because it's exciting to see him improve!

How is Lucifer's temperament? Compared to your others. My "dream snake is a buckskin extreme okeetee. I'm planning on stopping at "4" too, although you got me craving Kings again too lol

My other corn snakes are what I would consider normal. They can be skittish at times, usually when taking then out of their bin or cage. Monty is mellowing out as he gets bigger though. Lucifer has always been Mr. Chill. He has always been laid back, slower, but curious. He is the snake I take out when a somewhat fearful person wants to see one of my snakes.

I did stop at 4 ... corns! Love corns for many reasons, but love the kings and my Pueblan milk too.

Buckskin Okeetees are very beautiful!

Oh got ya :) 4 corns...I'm trying to stop at just 4 snakes. There's a upcoming show in Tampa this weekend and I'm probably not going to be able to resist bringing home a new one. I'll have to start a progression thread for my boys soon. I've decided on a name for my snow corn. He'll be known as "Chancellor Palpatine".

I was asked by a fellow member to take some updated pictures of Nagini. She isn't growing as much as the others due to her occasional regurges. She seems to be more sensitive to the size of her prey. She has regurgitated 3 times total and each time I am sure it's due to size. The second time she did, I had started giving her 2 pinkies at a time, and she was okay for the first few "2 pinkies" feedings and then she regurged (I was probably upping the pinkie sizes). Later, I was giving her peach fuzzies and she had another regurge - like only a little of the undigested mouse came up. Since then, I have backed off to large pinkies again so I am seeing her grow but not like the others.

But anyway, here she is. I love her ghostly colors.

Nagini is beautiful. Poor girl, I hope she doesn't regurge anymore.

I have something to look forward to. :)

It seems to be related to her food size because nothing else changes in her bin. Temps, hides, etc. She will gain weight and I will figure it's time to bump her up and then she has a partial (always seems like 2 days later) regurge. It's never been 2 times in a row.

So who knows, maybe your ghost will be bigger than mine in a little while!

Part of me hopes she'll stay tiny. I just saw your old pictures of Nagini, and she has the same head markings as mine. :)

How old is Nagini?

I bought her at PetCo (my first snake) in August 2012. She was not very old, probably no more than a month, if that.
