Hey guys,
I'm a new member to the forum (hello! :wavey:) and I'm new to snakes. I bought a 4 month old Ghost Corn a few weeks ago and named him Nagini, if you're a Potter fan, you'll get the name! :rolleyes:

Anyhoo, I've placed Nagini in his vivarium now as he was cramped in a ridiculously small 'sandwich' box when I bought him. He absolutely loves his vines and his plants to climb but he seems to think he's Superman. He straightens up, touches his head on top of the viv and BOOM - he falls.
I wouldn't say the viv is any higher than 1.5-2ft but it really worries me, especially with him still being a baby. Is this normal?! He has plenty to climb up, hide under etc so why does he choose to do this? Especially because I don't have a lid, it's a front, clasped viv.

I appreciate if you could help.

Nice name ;)

Not a snake, but I had a leopard gecko who would love to climb to the top of her branches and plants and then jump (or fall) straight off. It was one of the most hilarious things I've ever witnessed. Beats me why they'd choose to do it either, but I don't personally think there is any foul in it? Mine was landing on reptile carpet from a fall that was like six inches though. I think the sturdiness of snakes, even little babies, is quite underestimated.
 
I too am new to snakes (my first one arrives Tues!), but if you are really worried maybe just make the layer of bedding really thick? Then it's be like falling into a cloud or something.. sounds fun, haha

It's normal !
snakes are smart enough to know that the screen top is a possible way out and will attempt it no matter how painful of outcome may be :)

Just wait until he's a little bigger and can cram into the lip of the lid for a little while, then thump down.
 
^^^ Yeah, my little guy hangs out up there, one of the first times we caught him doing it he seemed so startled that we'd seen him he let go and went SPLOOSH right into his water dish. I just tell myself that at least he's getting some exercise.

totally normal..

my guys a year old and still does it! my boyfriend used to worry about him hurting himself as he would fall from what seemed like such a high spot! (he's in a 29 gallon deep tank) lol I think its like 30 inches deep!

and he always falls down at night, he's even woke me up a couple of times now that he's big enough!
lol but yeah don't worry, he more than likely wont stop, lol but he also more than likley wont hurt himself.. :)
 
Thank you for your replies guy, I'm glad it seems like a common thing :) in some respects, I find it hilarious! He hasn't done it since that evening but he has just recently had a feed so that's probably why, lol. Maybe I should buy him a small cape ;-)
 
hahah, sometimes snakes look so clumsy!
Yzma climes as high as possible in her viv, and than loses her balans, and 'pof' she is on the bottom again.
Nothing superhero about it if you ask me hihi.. bit dorky
