I need some advice & help! Hognose related

not a problem!
I don't own any hoggys but I'd love too!
lol and I love to try and help where I can.
lol! sending good wishes your way tonight that he eats!

I'll try to get on here first thing tomorrow morning and let everyone know. <3

And hey, now if you get a hog you'll know all these methods! lol

Good find on the toad. I'll add that if they get scared and urinate, scent with that, too. And yeah, I just wet the pinky and rub it on the toads back for about ten seconds. And Nanci's right, you'll like the toad as much as the snake in a few months.

YESSS He did! He ate the toad-scented pinkie :) And man, did he have a belly lump. He was starting to lose a little weight, so he looked SO FAT! And when I took off the paper bag, he looked up at me like, "what? Of course I ate it!" haha! I'm so happy ;_; I was really starting to worry! I can't wait for him to gain a little weight and maybe shed after a few meals. Hopefully now that he's tasted delicious toad-pinkie, he'll crave it. :) And my lucky toad is staying with me. For scenting, and because he's adorable and actually handles really well. He jumps less than my damn crestie! lol

I'm gonna take a video of the squeaking/chirping he does, because it's way too cute. I would have never in my life imagined I'd become a frog/toad person, but here we are.. :) Absolutely love him. I can't wait to give him enough room to hang out. :D!

Yay! That's so awesome!

Smeagol continues to eat egg. And he took a canned tuna chuck too. I'm going to give him a couple days and then scent a pinky and try it.

It's kind of strange watching him, because it's almost like he has trouble remembering to use his mouth. The egg yesterday he rooted at and pushed around for several minutes before finally opening his mouth. As soon as he got his mouth open, GULP! Worked it down just fine.

Well I'm not going to be able to get a toad round here for a few months ....

wonder if it would work rubbed on the bearded dragon???? :)

Not likely, but anything is worth a shot. Raw fish might be more effective, though.

mine took a sand-eel tonight, but its so hit and miss!! sometimes he will take unscented pinks, sometimes not. Sometimes fish scented pinks, sometimes not. Sometimes chicken scented pinks, sometimes not. He took a chicken scented FLUFF once and once only!!!! MOSTLY will take a sand eel but not always!

The only thing he will consistently take is chicken. And that CANNOT long term give him what he needs. Surely???

Its just exasperating as there seems no rhyme or reason that I can follow!

Mari I would keep on toad scenting and try to build him up a bit, and then see if he moves on to unscented. He might ... then again might not!!!! But I would try to get a bit of weight on him before trying!

But dmm good job all the effort you put into to get him to take that!!!!!!!

just a little fish - like whitebait - also called lancefish I think :)

no idea why they are called sand eels actually - the fishing shops where they are sold as bait seem to call them that

Can you get a frog? Sometimes I've seen live or frozen frogs in specialty food stores. That might work for scenting.

I'm starting to think I should start a business scenting and selling scented pinks-I love my froggies, and I wouldn't mind getting a toad or two to go with them...hmmm...

I think it's a great idea! Especially, y'know, had I not found my little toad friend, I would have just kept trying fish, tuna, etc which seems like it works.. 75% of the time. Pre-scented pinks, or even a scent packet to go with them (ew lol) might be really, really cool! I would love to be a part of that.
