I held an adult black milk snake about a year ago and really liked it, but after I got my Pueblan and was introduced to all of that musking, I didn't want to get another musk machine (though he is getting better). Later, I found the really lengthy black milk snake thread on these forums and read about their calm temperaments and had to give them a second look.
Loki was meant to be a "reward" for reaching a fitness goal, and I am just about there, and my husband told me that I could get him a little early, in time for Christmas. I picked him up today from the breeder where I got 2 of my other snakes (Milkshake the Pueblan and Sherlock the Cal king).
He is so calm and curious! I am really excited to see him in his adult form. My daughter and husband suggested the name "Loki" - which is fine by me because that's my favorite character in Marvel's Thor/Avengers movies. After researching it, I think it's a fitting name for a snake that'll be so dark.
Merry Christmas to me! In other exciting news, we bought a house 2 days ago and I am SO excited to explore the property (35 acres with a creek and pond) and see what kind of herps we will find. It's not far from here, so I know there will be garters (and I did already find 2 leopard frogs in the sump pump in the basement, which we rescued). We won't move in for a few months, and then of course it'll be awhile before all the cold and snow goes away, but when it does, we will be all over the woods and fields to see what we can find. Another plus is that the house is much bigger, and I am going to have my husband build some display cages instead of going with the rack idea that we originally planned on when the reached adult sizes, since we'll definitely have the space for some nice displays.
