My Valentine's Day Present To Myself!

They are not too accurate from what I've seen. There was a quiz online once to try to figure out what breed of dog some mixed breeds were and then what the genetics test showed...some of the dogs had such rare breeds in them that I hadn't even heard of them and they were breeds rarely even found in the US...yet they said they were in there. If it were me, I'd go with DDB mix and leave it at that....but it might be fun to see if it shows Greyhound or something :)

Yeah I would say they are pretty accurate. Just realize genetics can do odd things.

Great rescue, Nanci. She is such a beautiful dog.

I don't understand how someone could just drop off a dog like a crate of bottles like that. That takes a very cold soul. But in the end, she is very lucky where she landed.

Also, are you sure Rose might not even be purebred?.. Everything from her eye and hair color to the shape of her face looks Dogue de Bordeaux.

She's a little small for a DDB Michael...the breed standard calls for at least 99 lbs as part of the standard...I don't know how tall she is but they are supposed to be 23-27" tall....she could just be small for breed standard though.....

Nanci, she's a beautiful girl, and I'm almost jealous!

Elsa, is that photograph of your daughter and the dogs Photo-shopped? Something looks artificial/superimposed about that picture.

Hi Chip,

Nope, no photo shop, the closest I get to any editing would be red eye removal and re sizing. I like taking pics, but coming from film days- you get it in camera and hope for the best, not a fan of editing on the computer

I took it with a little sony cyber shot digital camera it is a few years old. The lawn and gardens looked great (not to mention my kid and the boys) Now it is just a giant snowy mess :) The sony has always done a good job.

I think it looks like that because everything is so sharp.

Chip- just wait till you meet her...She's definitely different than either of the other two. Different than any dog I've had. It's like, everything happens in slow motion! I tell Ella to sit and she just snaps into position, almost faster than I can say it. Rose- she has to think for a minute, then decide if it's worth it, then oh so slowly she sits. She _has_ figured out how to sit in a timely fashion for going outside, but not for coming in.

When she runs, she randomly trips, or else does it on purpose, as she is gamboling about, and then somersaults. It's hilarious. I've seen her do a double roll!

You're much more knowledgable on the details, so I'm sure you're right that she's too small to be DDB. She just has that golden/fawn color and build that looks so similar.

Perhaps Bulldog/DDB?..

Whatever morph she is, she looks awesome.

It's cool you'll get to find out, too. I have a presumed Chihuachshund that was a stray in Arkansas. It would be neat to know exactly what he is.

I'd bet money there's DDB in there...

One of the big advances in technology now is that the samples are read by computer, not human.

Nanci, since I came to the party late, I had a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes from Bella's story. I had no idea it would have such a lovely ending!

You are one special lady, and I know that you will have a lifetime of laughs, licks and loves from your babies.

Thanks for the huge smile on my face!!!!

Nanci, how old is Rose??

Is it possible her growth could have been stunted?? I mean if someone will just dump their dogs, maybe they didn't always feed them the best either....

Chip I did a double take on the picture too. I think the beautiful green dress is having a green screen effect on things.

Shes estimated to be two years old. She's tall enough that Ella can walk underneath her! Last night was their first night all out overnight together. Everyone went to bed and stayed there. Then this morning I took them out together (on leashes) and then did their first meal together- which went great! Bella and Ella are showing her the ropes.

They have a Facebook page, by the way!! (That's a link)

Following!

I measured Rose's height last night. She's 22"- so just under the average height range. Maybe she is purebred??? I guess I'll find out!!
