I made the switch to Mac a few years ago. I'd used a Mac for editing, but not as a personal computer. I was scared that all my programs I loved wouldn't work. Really, I barely notice the difference. My favorite reptile database is PC only (Degei) so I switched to Reptile Scan, and I LOVE that program. E-mail- no big deal. Word- compatible. Safari- love it.
I was also SUPER concerned about losing my photo editing program that I loved so much, Thumbs Plus. I asked around, switched to Lightroom, and man, it is so much better!!
The COOLEST thing is that when Mac comes out with a new OS, you DL it by wifi, and it costs less than $20.
It's amazing. There are no pop-ups. No blue screen of death. I think I've rebooted less than ten times in three years. I never shut my Macbook down- it doesn't need to be. It goes to sleep and wakes up by itself. On the few odd times I've shut it down, it's back up, ready to go, in about one minute. A reboot takes even less time.
If you can do it- take the plunge. You'll have a computer that will last YEARS.
And my craptop is up at Rich's, running XP. I refuse to upgrade- I like XP, if I'm forced to use a PC. (Poor little Macbook Air can't travel, since I broke the screen...*cries*)
I think my PC at work is XP. Total bogged-down PITA. Hate it.
