One of those rare instances......

Walter Smith

CRAZY BOUT' CORNS !!
.........where momma decided she wasn't going to use the nest box provided.
I very rarely have a female turn down her nest box, but it sometimes happens, for whatever odd reason...:shrugs:

How do you get her away from the eggs without the eggs getting knocked all over the place?

Well, most of them are all dried/stuck together so they remove all at once, but I actually remove the eggs first when they are in the next box, then momma.
In this case, I just had to pick up the eggs.

Nice clutch, Walter! Are we allowed to know what the potential hatchlings could be???

Sure, but nothing that will be going out. This entire clutch will be culled. This female is a Sunkissed Amel which is being tested for gazer, by a 100% het Gazer male.

Thanks for doing those tests. You are doing the whole species (at least any sunkissed you will produce) a big favor. Hopefully, in time, we can have that gene bred out of all captive corns.

Thanks Chip !!

I started testing MY Sunkissed lines last year and into this year. I should be done testing next season.
I know my testing isn't going "rid the world" of stargazers, but at least I will have the piece of mind knowing that the ones I offer will be gazer free.

So far, (from last years tests) I've been very fortunate that I have alot more animals that have proven gazer free vs. ones that do carry the gene.
This year will give me even more info.

Can't wait to see what hatches out of all those other clutches, holding on to this tax refund is hard...

Very cool Walter! I had a couple females lay outside the box as well. When you breed large numbers of Corns you're sure to see some weird things lol!!!
Can't wait to see what you produce this season :)

Wow, what a big, beautiful, perfect clutch of eggs!!!; does not look like a single slug or infertile egg....isn't that how it always works if you don't want/need any of the offspring? ;)
