CRAZY TESSERAS !!

Walter Smith

CRAZY BOUT' CORNS !!
Found these two out and about in their incubation box this morning.
Two different color flavors.........Classic & Caramel.

There are still quite a few sitting in their mini pods, so we'll see what else comes out.

Awesome! I wonder if we'll be able to make a new strain like blood is to diffused?

Do you know for sure the sire is not?

I'd wager the sire is too, or was at least carrying it as an unexpected pop up.

If so, it would be unknown. The Sire is Tessera 100% het Caramel 66% ph Lava.
The clutch size is 20 eggs, so I'm sure if he happens to be a surprise/unknown Bloodred het, I will see some Bloods in the clutch.

We'll see once they all hatch out.

The "normal" is so red. I'm not the tessera expert, but all the normals I've hatched have been either Miami-esque or brown and gold. I'm not saying bloodred because of the color, I'm noting the pattern, but coincidentally, that sure is a red baby.

Could be something as simple as RedCoat/Red Factor ???
Of course I don't keep an eye for that in my collection that much, Really doesn't matter to me on that topic.

As discussed before, it seems that Tesseras that come from parents carrying the Bloodred trait show this crazy pattern for some odd reason.....why, I have no clue :shrugs:

I thought it could possibly be a het "marker" for Bloodred, but then again not all of them display this abberent pattern.

And some display it that don't (such as snake in my avatar).

Exactly, which made me re-think what causes this abberent pattern, which I still don't know :uhoh:............LOL

Whatever the cause, I really like the extreme abberents.

I always like the extremes - if it's aberrant, then I want it to be crazy aberrant. If it isn't, then I like a super clean stripe.

Beautiful babies.

Very cool Walter!!!

Thanks Steve !!
Just went and checked and there are 2 more Caramel Tessys out. They aren't quite as abberant as the one pictured earlier, but still pretty cool.

As far as what causes tesseras to have the aberrant pattern, I'd have to agree with Joe Pierce's "borderless" theory. Most good bloodred lines are borderless, so it makes sense that you often see the aberrancy when bloodred is in the mix. But a lot of lavas have the borderless "gene" as well, so perhaps this clutch got a double dose?

Perhaps cases where just one parent is borderless look like your Clutch #11, Walter, with the female Salmon Ghost who definitely looks borderless. Consequently, the hatchlings show some disruption in the stripe, but not total?

Hmmmm, very interesting Catherine.
I've seen it quite a bit with the het Bloodreds and I know of the Lava's having the boarderless gene. Seeing that the Dame is 100% het Bloodred and the Sire is ph Lava, it does make sense.

Actually, here are a couple pics.
The first pic. is of the actual parents, but you can't see the Sire's pattern so well.
The second is another breeding of his (to a Topaz) so you can see him better and you can see he is actually "boarderless"

BTW, I really hope this guy proves het Lava.........Topaz Tesseras if so :licklips:
