My turn! SpiritSerpents 2014 season thread.

May I present unto you all... Bansidhe. Thanks to his see-through-ness, I know he is indeed a he.

And the charcoal moonstone.

Awww. How did you get it to leave its head out of the egg while you picked it up?

It just did. *shrugs* I figured that it might be willing to stay when it didn't duck back in the egg while I was searching for Bansidhe. It and one of the anery-charcoals was out this morning. Hopefully bansidhe #2 will be out when I get home. :D

Wow. Bansidhe, you are a handsome, handsome boy.

Isn't he just??? I hope you get one too!

I cannot wait to get home. There's a normal anery pipped, and what looks like might be another charcoal moonstone from the runt egg. Still have one left to pip entirely.

Hmmmmn.... Is this second, darker male a platinum? Or natural variation? Or the real thing? Or. Or. Or.

And, because of course... Here's the occupant of the last egg. This one has darker borders than the others. Maybe a platinum? Or a female?

This puts me 7 or 8 babies as homozygous charcoal as well as anery. Holy odds, batman. Tiny runt egg gave me a super pretty, tiny run charcoal moonstone.

I've been hesitant to dive into the lavender gene, but these guys and Roylance's amaretto corns are pretty neat looking.

The last one came out last night, and coloring-wise is in between the two other males that previously hatched. I'll get photos tonight. I'm pretty sure this last boy is 'just' a platinum because of the visible borders.

The first clutch has all shed and going through them it looks like I only got 2 actual motleys, a whole bunch of Liarpants that have 1/2 to 2/3 of their bellies clear of checkers, and then some with normal belly checkers. It's very, very odd. I'll spend some time this afternoon getting photos of each hatchling as I offer them their first meals. Here's some fast photos of the two actual motleys. They're super nice babies, if squirmy. No rattling, no flattening of the head even as I poked and prodded to try to get them to stay put. The people who end up with these babies will be lucky.

My attempt at resurrecting my sweetcorn project has begun to pip. Anery, hets uknown to a ghost het amel. I've three anery noses so far with 16 eggs left to pip.

I'm amused that it's these bottom eggs that first decided to hatch out. Silly little snakes.

Well, that's an interesting start to a head pattern...

So far all three babies have REALLY dark eyes for aneries. Very odd. Tor's never produced such dark-eyed creatures before. But daddy Eugene does have quite dark eyes.

What's the sweetcorn project?
Looks like you are having a great season. Some great pipping pics, too! I love bubbly nose pics lol

My sweetcorn project was/is a plan to do long term breeding specifically for temperament and completely disregard morph. I'd be holding back unusually docile babies to then breed together, continuing to select the hardiest, but also 'tamest' corns and, using careful outcrossing, see if I could basically do a reptile version of the fox experiment.

Got some more noses. 5 pipped total now, all aneries.

But.... what the hell is up with this one's facial pattern?

This one came out towards my camera, rested on the egg above it... and let me gently touch its nose without moving away.

One of the babies came out this morning, and spent about 10 minutes just resting, stretched out, on my hand. I think the sweetcorn project may have hit the ground running.

I discovered, upon arriving home, that I had a pile of 6 little anery babies, plus 8 anery noses. I'm actually a little surprised to see nothing hypo or amel in addition, as those are very common hets. There are 5 eggs left to pip.

These guys are all so very good natured right now, and probably 2/3s of the clutch has decent nose freckling.

Uhmmm.... Hmmn. o_O Well, the other two look like the same morph, and then there's Bansidhe sticking out like a sore thumb.

But but but.... I don't wanna hold back 3 males! D:

I'll get natural-light photos on wednesday morning.

Bansidhe.
