2014 NRBE National Reptile Breeders Expo

Crazy that it's almost August and I haven't seen any post of this. So who's going, do we have any dinner/raffle plans, where is everyone staying, what is it you might be looking for.

Myself I am staying way down S. Daytona. So I'm pretty far from the show. I think maybe after 20 years of attending NRBE I think I might get my mom to come :). I still remember NRBE back when it was in Orlando

I don't know what exactly I will be looking for but I have a few I want of course lol. Adult Male Albino Applegate Gopher snake, adult Female Nicaraquan Boa and something corn wise for some of my projects.

Just reserved our room today. Still working on flight details, etc. I haven't been to this expo since 2007, I think. Looking forward to it!

Kathy

Kathy, where are you staying?

Josh- I don't even know who's going. It's just not the same any more, after they python ban, and this being the last year.

Wow, I've been living in the woods too long. I haven't heard that! Sounds to me that Connie and I might need to go there, just for old time's sake. We didn't go last year because the weather was pretty crappy to be making the trip.

So is Wayne quitting the show completely or moving it to a different state?

All I know is the Ocean Center is not reserved for 2015.

It was one of my most favorite things, ever.

Yeah, it's been going on for what, about 25 years? I missed the first one because all I had hatched out at the time were eastern indigo snakes. I was living in Maryland at the time, so obviously I couldn't take them to a show in Florida. The second show Connie and I went with some friends just as walk-ins. So it wasn't till the third show that we actually attended as vendors. Did the show every year till 2009 when we retired afterwards.

Anyway, I just went to Wayne's website and he's not showing the 2014 vendor list yet. :shrugs:

At the end of the show every year Wayne announces if the ocean center renews for another year. I hope that's the case this year. The python banned and economy have both done a toll on our precious hobby/life. I hate the fact that I have not been able to see retics morph into the many morphs they have now ;(.

Yeah, we really needed a federal ban on them to keep them from establishing colonies throughout Kansas, Michigan, New York, etc......

Nanci, we're at the Daytona Hilton, (the one that advertises the expo discount). Got a nice ocean-front room for Friday and Saturday night. Hope to finally meet you, and some of the other CS.com crew!

I had also heard this might be the last year, so we decided we had to make this happen, one way or another.

Kathy

I like that hotel, but everything is extra. wifi. parking. it's noisy.

Last time, I stayed at a place about 1/2-hour away. It was expensive, and very noisy as well. Is there anything nice nearby that you recommend?

I gave a deposit, but can cancel up to 5 days before check-in. My hubby and I wanted an ocean-front room, because our anniversary is that weekend.

That's what I heard.:awcrap:

Personally, I think this should have been done a few years back. In one place way too long,
plus once the Florida Fish & Game started putting pressure on vendors for paperwork on lineage on ALL offspring being sold....what ???? Are you serious, see ya !!! :wavey:
The year before this was put into effect was my last....2010

It was one of my most favorite things, ever.

I agree 100% Nanci. I always looked forward to this EVERY YEAR until....well read above.

The python banned and economy have both done a toll on our precious hobby/life.

I think it has more to do with the economy more than anything.:headbang::headbang:

Thanks Walt, but that looks like it's the 2013 list, not the 2014 list. Or am I reading that wrong?

Oooops, didn't even notice that. I just went to the website and clicked the link to the vendor list.
Of course everything on the home page is dated 2014, so I took it that the vendor list was as well......sorry.

I saw this recently on Wayne's facebook page for the show (I think this is new for 2014, but hard to tell):
This year all vendors who will be displaying or selling animals will need to provide a photocopy of all inventories, licenses and health certificates (if applicable) to NRBE staff at check-in. You will not receive your table assignment until all required paperwork is provided. These documents will be made available to FWC staff for inspection/ verification. FWC inspectors will still be monitoring the floor for general husbandry and caging requirements.

Yeah, no way I would have (much less COULD HAVE complied with something like that. It's all I could do to get ready to be at the show much less worry about paperwork and crap. So yeah, if I hadn't already decided to retire before then, I would have been pushed into it, 2010 would have been my last year in the business anyway.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for an inventory.

I have all my animals entered into a database the day they hatch, listing parents, and the parents' registration numbers. I could easily comply with FWC, but I don't like selling (or not selling!) at shows.

That's pretty much what I was told personlly by the FWC inspector that came to my table looking to see my liscence in 2010.
He said next year (2011) this will be enforced.
He said it's actually been a "law" for quite a few years, but that they were being forced to enforce it now..........still a bunch of crap as far as I'm concerned.

I'm with you Rich and quit vending this show after being a table holder since 1998 because of this. It's not that I didn't have what they wanted, I just didn't see what it was helping and to go through all that work on top of all the work already to get ready and get to the show AND sales starting to decline at that time due to the economy, it just wasn't worth it to me, so I said asta-la-viesta ( <---- not sure if that's spelled right ..LOL) baby !!
