I have both. I've recently realized that I connect better with my cats than with my dog. What about you?

I love both and I will probably always own at least one of each species, but if I could only have one or the other, I will always choose a dog. I prefer being able to do outdoor activities with them and I like that they show more emotion than cats. I also really enjoy training, which isn't as easy with cats.

I don't like the sassy attitude that often accompanies cats, so I must say dogs. I have three dogs right now, and they're practically my best friends. I have owned a cat in the past, and although he was sometimes affectionate, I just didn't get the enjoyment out of the species as I do with dogs.

I'm a cat person and always have been. I can't stand dog barking or that musky dog smell. I have Asperger's and hyper sensitivities. So loud noises and smells really really bother me.

I've never had an aloof or sassy cat. All my cats have always been cuddle monsters. I only have one cat left now (they have all died of old age). She is currently 12 and the only thing annoying about her is she is clingy. She wants attention all the time.

Even though I prefer cats, I still own a dog. She was actually my neighbors dog. She started hanging around my house a lot. She was skin and bones. So, finally one winter I just took her in. Took her to the vet, got all her shots and had her fixed. Called my neighbor up and told them I was keeping her. They didn't care. So, now I have a dog lol!

I've had/currently have both and like both but am definitely more of a dog person. My husband on the other hand is a major cat person who tolerates my dogs, though I think after about the first year of being married, he finally started to genuinely like my heart dog, Bella. Still only tolerant of the new puppy though. And oddly, for a man, he is absolutely not a fan of the bigger dog breeds.

I am totally with you, I can't stand that "doggie" smell, and hate the barking. And the jumping and drooling, ick. Also, I was attacked by the same dog twice when I was younger, I have a fairly nice scar on my upper thigh from it.

If you couldn't tell from my signature, I loves me some kitty! I actually had to make a decision a long time ago, my (now) husband was terribly allergic to my parent's cats but I couldn't see myself living a life without them, nor could I see a life without him! I did a whole lot of research and came across the Ragdoll breed. They have such thick, downy, bunny-soft fur that they don't produce as much dander as shorter hair cats have, and people tend to be less allergic to them. We found a breeder and Jim "sniff-tested" a sweet little boy for about a half a hour in our car, I went inside and paid the breeder. He was Jim's best buddy and we have had Ragdolls ever since, plus shorter hair cats now (his allergies came into check, I was SO happy) that we have rescued.

But you can have dogs that don't do that! I freaking HATE licking and jumping and crotch sniffing and butt jabbing and picking up people's shoes and walking around with them. And aimless barking. My dogs do not do those things.

But- I love cats. I just can't have them, with the snakes. Not worth the risk.

I actually never thought of the having a dog to do stuff with, outdoors, aspect of benefits of a dog, but realize that with my current crop of dogs that is a pretty important aspect.

Hands down a dog person. I love how silly she is and how excited she is to see me. Not to mention playing fetch, bubbles or flyball with her. She's a lot of fun and she doesn't bark, drool or jump on people :)

Cats are ok but I don't think I could ever have one. Cats are so moody, not to mention the litter box and shedding. Yuck. Plus I'm allergic though not too bad. Just itchy eyes.

But the smell. That's what I REALLY can't stand.

Sure, you can train your dogs not to jump and bark, but you can't train them to not slobber or always have that dog smell to them.

My cats are like puppies, they follow me around the house, when I get up in the morning (ok, afternoon) 5 of the 6 are waiting right outside my bedroom door. They all run in, hop on the bed and we have "lady time" even though one is a boy. They get a couple of treats and lots of love and pets, and then if I am every laying down they want to be right there with me. Most of them play fetch better than dogs do, and add a laser light to the game, you will laugh until you cry.

Litterboxes are necessary, but so is scooping your dog's poop which smells 100x worse, IMO. You have to clean up after your dog everyday, same as cats.

I love cats. My little cat is very clingy and affectionate. She waits to greet me at the door when I get home, and always wants to be near me. Dogs have their charms, and my son's Doberman was a very sweet dog, but I found the doggie smell a little overpowering.

Well, we have this sticker on my minivan...

Actually, I used to do cat rescue/fostering and still have two rescued cats from those days. We're definitely more cat people than dog people.

I have a shirt with that on it!

Are those of you bothered by "doggie" smell talking about larger breeds? Or all breeds? Although they can of course get a little whiffy if they go several months without a bath, I've never noticed a particular odor to my Chi's or any of the other small breeds I've lived with over the years. The family Lab though did near constantly have a definite odor that wasn't exactly pleasant and I can certainly see that being unbearable to some people.

I'm a "both" person!

I could never choose. I only have a cat right now because I'm in college and living in an apartment, but I'd have a dog if I could.

I prefer chatty cats, like siamese/points/etc, because they always seem to have more spunk and personality. And with dogs, I prefer medium-xlarge dogs, like pit bulls to huskies. But I've had small dogs before and I loved them too! :D I just like animals!

Well my dog poops outside and I have a scooper for the yard. I only have to clean the yard once a week. Cat pee smell is the worse. It burns my nose. The people who owned our house clearly had a cat. Every time the carpet gets wet it smells like cat pee. We are going to have to replace all the carpet to get rid of it.

To each his own of course. I have friends who prefer cats, I just can't understand it lol.

I'm not sure what smell everyone is talking about either! I hang out with canines all the time and don't notice any smell. However... When I grew up I remember my dog had really bad breath. Now that I have my own dog and Internet, I realize that they had bad breath because of the really bad food we fed them. Grizz gets really good food and a lot of raw, and he doesn't smell at all. What I find interesting, is that he still will smell like a wet dog when he gets a bath. The wolves don't get that smell at all. Not sure what the difference is other than they don't get any kibble at all.
I used to be a cat person, strictly, after the dogs I had as a kid passed. But that was because they were loud, had bad breath, and generally misbehaved on walks.

Now that I have my own dog, I am a dog person!!
But I love my devil kitty too :)

I am an animal person, i have quite a few, I am first a dog person, i have two then come the 3 cats, two were rescues, then my corn snake, then my blue front amazon parrot, for outside i have 12 chickens and 1 muscovy duck. I had a pigmy goat but she passed last winter at 15 years old. I love all those fresh eggs.

I used to be so much of both!... I don't know what it is, and I hate to admit it, but lately I am starting to get really annoyed by dogs. Maybe it's because many of the people I know who have dogs do not train them properly. But they jump and scratch and lick and bark and I get downright irritated.

Cats make me laugh, because they are fricken hilarious. They do the dumbest stuff. And they are evil! But in a cute way (most of the time). Not to mention, much less needy -- although maybe more emotional? Hehe.

All in all, definitely cats.
