But the smell. That's what I REALLY can't stand.
Sure, you can train your dogs not to jump and bark, but you can't train them to not slobber or always have that dog smell to them.
My cats are like puppies, they follow me around the house, when I get up in the morning (ok, afternoon) 5 of the 6 are waiting right outside my bedroom door. They all run in, hop on the bed and we have "lady time" even though one is a boy. They get a couple of treats and lots of love and pets, and then if I am every laying down they want to be right there with me. Most of them play fetch better than dogs do, and add a laser light to the game, you will laugh until you cry.
Litterboxes are necessary, but so is scooping your dog's poop which smells 100x worse, IMO. You have to clean up after your dog everyday, same as cats.
