Well, we have this sticker on my minivan...

Agreed! I initially wanted a cat, but my partner is allergic. So, second up was a snake! Now I'm hooked on reptiles (mostly snakes). :)

I honestly have never noticed a bad smell with my dog (he's a pug), but maybe I'm just desensitized to it? I kind of like the way he smells, actually. My old golden retriever did not smell very good, but I think that was more due to his old age. I also had a shih tzu who smelled really bad because she had really bad teeth. The other shih tzu that I had at the time didn't smell bad at all.

Cleaning up either animal's poop is not fun, but I really don't like the smell of the litter box in the house. I clean mine every day, but if I skip a day, you can definitely smell it if you walk in the room, whereas my dog poops outside, so that's never an issue.

Ooh, one thing that is definitely nicer about cats though, is that they're usually much easier to house train. When I got my kitten, she was really young but already knew how to use a litter box, so it was never an issue. My dog was about 6 or 7 months old before I felt like he was housetrained.

I tend to think that dogs are more work than cats, but overall I find them more rewarding as well.

I like both but I only have a cat (OK I have 2 if you count the one that lives in barn) Cats are more independent and less needy. Mine is clingy and affectionate but she's fine if I need to leave her alone for a couple of days or something.
I would love to have a dog but it would be left home alone too much and I think dogs need much more interaction with their owners to be happy than I'd be able to provide. I think it's mean to leave a dog in a crate or kennel all day while the owner is at work.

Dog. Clean dogs don't smell, and they love you more.

I'm both, forced to only have a dog at the moment, but I miss having a cat desperately and can't wait for the day I can add a cat! I firmly believe a home needs both dogs and cats, they each fill such different rockers.

Dogs all the way. I like cats too as long as they are outside.... I don't care for them getting on my kitchen counters. Though we have an indoor kitty and other than the counter thing she's pretty okay too.

I love both, but if I had to choose just one, I'd probably choose a cat. I love their sassy little faces and personalities. And they're easier to take care of.

A few fellow pug owners here I see! My pug is really rambunctious. Not at all laid back. He's such a handful at 7 months old right now. So right now, yes, I definitely feel like a cat person. My two senior cats are so sweet. I can't take a nice long walk with my kitties though. :)

I was brought up in a cat family, then in my early 20s was all about dogs, now I've gone back to cats. I have four of each, so maybe that makes me tied? LOL
I like my dogs and would never get rid of a pet, but I don't think I'll get more dogs once these have had their day.

I like cats, and I have had several over the years, but I always have been and always will be a dog person 100%!!

Our dogs! Rose is the angel Dogue de Bordeaux, and Hella Hell Dog is the 1/2 Am Staff, 1/4 Whippet, 1/4 English Bulldog. Both are rescues.

If you had asked me three years ago, I'd have said dogs, hands-down....but then Kyubey the little white kitten slipped into my life and now I'm about 50-50....thought if I had to choose just one for the rest of my life, I'd still choose dogs without hesitating. I work in a doggy daycare, and I LOVE IT.

Dog person. :D
My dog rescue (as a pup, 10 years ago) has never chewed or dragged out socks, rugs, wires/cords, books, etc.

He came house-trained from previous owner.
He responds to monosyllabic voice commands...and (silent) hand signals. And certain facial expressions.

Cats, 100% a cat person! Don't get me wrong, I like dogs but only other people's dogs (if they are well behaved anyway). Cats are extremely intelligent, hence their stubbornness and sassiness. It's like they KNOW they don't have to listen to you, and I love that independence they have. So when they do something for you, you know they want to not because they have to because of some silly hierarchy like dogs have. My girls cuddle with me every night and don't have any annoying habits.

One thing I can't stand about dogs is all the dirt they carry around in their fur. My ex had an Italian greyhound that would sleep under the covers and on the bed and the bed would be covered in sand (we lived in Florida). We argued a lot about it, so no dogs were allowed on the bed!

Cats have NO business outside so mine are all strictly indoors. I clean the litter box daily and no one notices any odors. I always ask people. The litter box becomes just another chore I do every day so it's not a big deal. Like cleaning up after a dog isn't any different. I also hate wet dog smell!

Also, I'm gone a lot and travel a lot so dogs would never fit in my lifestyle. It would not be fair to them. But I know I can leave my cats for days and not even worry about them. So they work better for me.

I used to be so much of both!... I don't know what it is, and I hate to admit it, but lately I am starting to get really annoyed by dogs. Maybe it's because many of the people I know who have dogs do not train them properly. But they jump and scratch and lick and bark and I get downright irritated.

Cats make me laugh, because they are fricken hilarious. They do the dumbest stuff. And they are evil! But in a cute way (most of the time). Not to mention, much less needy -- although maybe more emotional? Hehe.

All in all, definitely cats.

I totally agree, we laugh at our cats daily.

And the doggie smell, I think dog people are used to it. My sister brought her pug (very cute, by the way) over for Thanksgiving dinner one year and I had to ask her to put Jade outside, the smell was making me gag. And it wasn't a dirty dog smell, just a doggie smell because she washes her several times a week.

A tip for cat owners, if the litterbox smells (especially of ammonia from the urine) sprinkle a light layer of baking soda on it. There is also a kind made especially for litterboxes, it works even better but the floral-y smell might not be for everyone.

Both...I foster dogs and have two cats as well...more dogs than cats but I love them all...
