Masque?

I was walking through petsmart and checking out the animals like I usually do. It seems around here Petco has the more interesting morphs and Petsmart usually has amels, normals, and an anery every once in a while. So it made me do a double take when I saw this beauty. They were doing a sale on the corns so I walked away with a $35 female diffused. She is incredibly dark already which I love, but she is darker than any bloodred hatchling I have seen. What could cause this? I was thinking maybe masque? She is a 2014 hatchling and alittle over a foot long.

I'm not 100% sure, that was another thing I had a question about. I know the pale head is from the masque gene which generally acompanies the diffused gene. But she doesn't seem to have a pale head. I don't think they grow out of it that quickly, although her head pattern is a little smeared.

Thank you! I also love that head pattern. I am hoping she gets a very dark deep red, which seems very possible from her currebt coloring [emoji4]

That snake look like a bloodred. The masque traits were common in the original old time bloodreds, but not of them have the masque traits today.

The diffusion gene of the bloodred take away the black checker pattern on the belly so you cannot see if your snake have a masque patterned belly.

The head pattern is rather classic, so I do not think your snake is a masque.
Your snake have good bloodred diffusion on its sides and look like it will develop good amount of red color to.
I think it is a nice bloodred, but not a masque.

Thank you! I was leaning that way just because of how much head pattern she has, but its always nice to hear from someone with more experience.

Really?! When does the "faded look deminish? I have a bloodred stripe a month younger that has a very faded/pale head and hers doen't look faded at all. I am excited to hear that she may be a masque carrier!:grin01:

It's not always faded but the pattern itself looks different from corns without masque. What Im talking about is the V pattern on the front of the head. Isoldeal can probably explain it better than me though lol

I think I see what you mean.The nose and forehead pattern are reduced compared to my hatchlings that I know don't have masque.
