Overheating tank?

Ambient temp in my tank is 88F right now. I have no heat on, but I have no central air- only a fan is blowing. I'm sweating right now.

It's 11 at night.

How can I keep the tank cool at high noon? I'm worried it's going to get too hot. I'll be at work so I won't be able to monitor temperature.

Thanks in advance! C:

What some people have done was to freeze bottles of water and wrapped them really well in towels, they placed one on the cool side. Though you may have to change out substrate more often.

After my house A/C unit broke last year in the middle of summer I got one of those portable room units, and wheeled it into my quarantine area. Vents out a window, doesn't use much in the way of electricity. I use it in emergencies now.

Move the tank down to the floor in the coolest room in your house. If you are worried that the temp will get over 90F in that area, I guess you could rotate ice packs, but is a portable AC out of the question? If it's a temporary problem, just take the snake to work with you. If I have to bring a snake to work, I put it in a snake bag, with paper towels, with the bag tied, in the snake's feeding container. Then I put that in a grocery bag or large zippered lunch bag. No one knows.

Those are great! But they seem to lose their cooling ability after a couple years. I haven't figured out how to get the freon (or whatever it is now) recharged.

Have you tried one of the small appliance repair places? I think those are probably going to be the only way to get the freon for them or maybe an A/C repair. I think I paid around $100 for mine and it has more the made up for the initial cost.

Thank you all! I have rearranged my room a bit so that my box fan blows over me, my rat, and my snake (but not drafty!).

I ended up getting a can of Mountain Dew out of the fridge and sticking it in the corner of his cage, lol. I would take him to work with me but I work fast food and I doubt they'd be too keen...

What kind of portable AC are you referring to? Like a heater?

Thanks everyone so much for the help!

Remember the fan won't cool the snake. It works on humans because we evaporate sweat on our skin. Snakes don't. He needs actual cooler air.

cjbage, I'll definitely look in to that. Seeing as I might be moving soon, portable AC should really help.

@Nanci- woops! I don't know why I thought that way! In retrospect that make sense.
I think I'm going to keep up with the soda can until I can figure something out...
