Hi, I am new to corn snakes, just bought this one as it was beautiful. Seller said it was a blood red but not sure. What do the experts say? Beautiful red orange and some yellow going on.....

I'm certainly not "The Expert" on Corn Snake Morphs, but I'd say you have a "Classic Normal" corn snake there. It looks just like the Wild ones we catch here every summer.

Looks like a normal to me, but its hard to say with all of the morphs out there, and some of them being rather subtle. The breeder I work for had a pair of bloodreds. They are a very deep red, whereas your big beauty is much lighter in color, with a good deal of orange. The blood reds I've seen also lack the yellow coloration on the neck.

I see, good to know about the lack of yellow on a blood red. The guy I bought it from was a snake collector, not a breeder. Thank you.

those are pretty reduced blotch borders to be a normal...

Photos of the belly would be just as helpful here as with the photos you've already provided.

Does his belly have checkers? I feel like I can see a few on his neck, but he otherwise looks like a bloodred to me. His sides are clearly diffused.

normal masque
no bloodred - this morph should have a plain withe belly with 'visible' marks but no checkers anyway and not this much of redorange on it like your have ;)

Looks like a non-bloodred diffused to me, but I could be wrong... Hypo perhaps?

Also, there aren't really different subspecies of corn. The closest thing to it would be different localities, which is different populations in the wild, but those aren't considered subspecies by most. The one that was caught most commonly and brought into the pet trade was the Carolina locality, and that's where most corns in captivity ultimately trace their descent, but there's been a lot of mixing with other localities so few are 'pure' in that regard. The different 'morphs' are very different from subspecies - these are changes in appearance caused by one or more mutations at loci that affect skin colouration and patterning - sort of like blue eyes vs. brown eyes in a person.
