Old polls

There's a couple things that could be done, I think relatively easily, but I don't pay the programmer, so I don't have grounds to gripe.

One, on the thread lists, right now the tread title is listed (and multiple page numbers if applicable) with the Original poster's name underneath. Putting the OP Date right next to that *may* help alrert folks that it's an old thread. Maybe, maybe not.

Second, the code that generates the 'similar threads' list at the bottom of a thread could be altered to ignore any thread older than, say 1 year. That might eliminate the source of a lot of zombie threads.

Right now, I just use my backspace button when I see it's old.

But displaying the date more prominently won't stop anybody who is deliberately voting on old polls just to be annoying, as has happened before already.

That's true, but even with some sort of auto-lock on old polls, there are enough NEW or semi-recent polls for a troll to have fun with.

Most of the old-poll bumps probably share a source with resurrected ancient threads: enthusiastic new members. These incidents annoy me as well, but I don't think we're going to see any measure adopted to prevent them. And heck, sometimes we have some fun with these threads... ;)

Call me paranoid but I just don't remember any other time with so many old polls coming back up as often as they have been lately. I guess the information in them is sometimes still relevant. And it can be sorta funny but still I can't help but feel like somebody is doing it on purpose, and not just because they are new.

I don't know if you're paranoid or not. It seems that there have been more old poll resurrections than usual lately. That last BIG incident was easily traceable for a number of reasons. More subtle abuses would be harder to attribute to a single, pathetic saboteur. I got lucky on that last one, but I'm not going to put in the work necessary to figure out if anything underhanded is going on this time. If something becomes obvious, I'll definitely let you all know. Keep an eye out yourselves. If you see ancient polls being bumped, look who's online here at the time of the bump. If you start seeing an unfamiliar username online when these bumps occur, let me know and I'll see what I can do with the meager mod tools available to me.

I'm willing to keep my eyes open for that kind of thing, I didn't mean to imply that a moderator should have to sit there and monitor who's online or anything like that.
If there were only some way to modify the poll function so voting on one wouldn't bump the thread that would be the best solution. It's not that big a deal to me lol. When I see it's another poll I usually skip it :)
