Bug's Life

Hello peeps,

Insects are fascinating creatures.
Would like an insect-pet.
But this thread isn't about me (or what I want)

Show us your insects (pets)
+ info and stuff

Sweet... I never took any pics of the insects I've had, but I can at least say what I've kept...

1. Preying Mantis
2. Feeder Crickets
3. Jumping Spider
4. Wolf Spider
5. House Centipede
And, most recently,
6. Brown Mamorated Stinkbugs

I want to do Forensic Entomology at some point, even wrote a 12 page paper about it Freshman Year. (Other people were doing 5 pages about heroin, alchohol, or at best global warming- I did Forensic Entomology... :crazy02:)

Ohhh that is a really cool field Topazfyre. I just hope you have a strong stomach.

I have kept:

Wolf spiders
Jumping spiders
Praying Mantis
Walking Sticks
And several other varieties of bugs

I have no pictures as that was long ago in my youth. I do occasionaly keep a spider for a few weeks before I let him go. Outside lights and screen doors provide plenty of bugs (mainly moths) for feeding.

I've had indian stick insects, some spiky ones, giant african landsnails, worm farms and 'sea monkeys' (brine shrimp), all with the excuse that it was good for my boys when they were young! At the moment we've got this marbled mantis and a spider that surprised me by jumping into the bath with me

I had a delightful Rose Hair tarantula!! They make wonderful and interesting pets.

However, be warned that they are extremely fragile. :(

Oh no, Allison! He/she's gorgeous! What happened?

I just had a Chilean surrendered to me (my first T :D) and he's not nearly as nice looking as yours, completely bald behind haha!

I also used to have a Mantis named Edwardo, but Edwardo layed eggs and had to be relocated. Plus hundreds of feeder crickets, Dubia roaches, mealworms, superworms, Phoenix worms...but I don't really count those as pets, they're groceries :D

Wow you are right those photos are amazing!.
Oh I really like the mantis and the scorpion pictures. Here are a few I have taken.

Nice scorpions. How venomous are they? I read somewere that the smaller the pincers are, the more venomous they are.

That's true in most cases, since they don't have big claws to subdue their prey.
These guys have mild 2/5, but their cousins down in Mexico have a 5/5 on the scale. :shrugs:

All scorpions glow under black light.

True, all scorpions do fluoresce under blacklight. In fact, even fossilized scorpions fluoresce under blacklight. Pretty cool little critters. Scientists are still trying to figure out why exactly the scorpion produces a compound that fluoresces under intense UV light.

Thanks!! Your Chilean is quite beautiful in my opinion!!
My little lady walked right off a table...

Ugh.
:(

and Aztek, your scorpions are magnificent!! I would love to get an Emperors. Do you ever handle them?

^^^ The UV pics aren't mine they're from some buddies. My camera cost me 150 and can't really capture the blue very well.
And yeah, I handle them once in a while since they supposedly get stressed easily.
