Yesterday I went to a concert (Unearth) and I catched a drumstick! that's not the problem... the problem Is I also found a cellphone (and LG Chocolate MG800c) and I don't know what do to.... I really need a cellphone so that's why I don't want to call the owner.... but something says I have to do it hahaha what would you do? be honest!

yeah being honest because I'd keep it too that's why I need some people to support me so I don't feel too bad hehe

Personally i'd check whether theres a 'Home' number or similiar stored in it and ring that number. I wouldn't keep it simply on the basis it's still theft in the eyes of the law, Atleast in the UK.

Besides, If they report it as lost/stolen the phone will be locked and useless anyway.

oh no not here because we use something called SIM card that is a little chip that all the cellphones have it so I insert mine in the new cellphone and it has my number and everything

You need to call the owner and return it. Not only is he losing the phone, which still may be under contract, so, at least in the US, the owner would have to pay $150 over and above the cost of a new phone, but ALL his data is stored in it- numbers that may be impossible to replace. If you need a phone that badly, I can't believe you can't find one on eBay for really cheap. Maybe it won't be the nicest one, but you won't have that guilt hanging over your head, and you won't have karma coming to even things up some day. You know what the right thing to do is...

I agree with Nanci, you need to make every effort to return. Also with AJ it is stealing, no matter how you justify it. The phone doesn't belong to you. sorry but you asked, susang

You won't get any from me. That's one of the lowest things a person can do, IMO. Return the phone, or at least make an honest effort to, and see how good it feels to do the right thing.

You seriously want support to make you feel better about keeping someone else's 'phone?
You're not stealing food to survive, you have enough money to go to a concert and you want a 'phone.
So hand that 'phone in to the police. Then save up until you can buy a 'phone for yourself. And hope that if you lose your 'phone that you've spent your own money on, an honest person finds it.

I'd try to return it to the owner. I believe in treating others the way you would want to be treated.

I know what a sim card is. All mobile phones them, Its how mobile phones work. All the sim card does is store your network operator details on it ie number and limited amount of contacts.

All mobile phones have a Serial number and an IMEI number. The IMEI number is what is blocked. Thus making the phone un-usable no matter how many sim cars you put in it.

Absolutely find the owner or turn it over to authorities. I had one stolen before and lost some important info that could not be replaced. Do the right thing!!!

I really do believe in a sort of karma. Not exactly "an eye for an eye" kind of justice for every positive and negative action, but the kind of accumulation over a long period of time that tends to give back to you what you have put out there for others. Sure, some people seem to give good and get bad, while others seem to escape their bad deeds FOR A WHILE. Maybe even for a long time. But I just have this feeling, gathered from years of observation, that statistically, people tend to behave mostly positive or mostly negative MOST of the time (with exceptions, of course). And that over time, other mostly negative or positive people are drawn to their own type of people, and thus spread and accentuate "good or bad deeds" among themselves.

Or maybe it is just the Universe (or whatever you believe in) trying to keep some sort of balance. Whatever the cause, it is often in your own self interest to generally treat others as you would like to be treated. And the younger you start, the more likely positive actions and thoughts will be with you for your whole life. It is much more difficult to change later in life.

Please do the right thing.

Personally, if you didn't have over 200 posts and a rep of 10, I would say this is just a troll.

Dude, if you have to ask, you know what it is you should do. besides that, even if you do replace the chip, the phone is probably registered in some way. With all the "techno fingerprints" that are out there in products and services, I would say you might get caught. But then again, that fear isn't what should motivate you to do what is right. You obiviously know it is wrong.

In a situation such as this the answer should be simple. Put your self in that persons shoes. Maybe they had saved a long time to get that phone. Accidents happen and things get lost. If you lost your phone wouldn't you hope if some one found it they would call you?

I agree with Kathy.

To sum it up--What comes around goes around!

I've got to go with the majority here. What goes around comes around. You should make every effort to find the owner. Call the numbers stored in there and somebody will probably tell you whose phone it is and how to reach that person.
I have found and returned wallets before, and I really needed the money that was in them but I wouldn't have kept it for anything.

In UK Law under Section 3 of the Theft Act of 1968 a person is guilty of Theft by Appropriation if he or she assumes ownership over another persons property.

3.-(1) Any assumption by a person of the rights of an owner amounts to an appropriation, and this includes, where he has come by the property (innocently or not) without stealing it, any later assumption of a right to it by keeping or dealing with it as owner.

It wouldn't surprise me if you have a similiar law in your country.

No!! I'm not a troll! hehe I was just tempted to keep the phone =( but you know, you're right... I have to return the phone
