Went to Glades Herp....

dogsNdragons

and Corns, OH MY!
And all I got was this lousy Hogg Island Boa :spinner:

I went to look today, and of course had to get one. He is an 07 and about 22-24", I didn't get an exact measurement yet. Pics aren't the greatest becuse I didn't want to mess with him too much.

Hes a stunning example of the locale, and a perfect first boa. Congrats. Now you will need to buy 10 more boas to satisfy your newly found boidy hunger. It's worse than corns...

He's so pretty! What was Glades Herp like? Was it really cool? Was there tons of stuff? Did they really have killer attack dogs? Did you know what you were getting before you went, or just pick him out of a bunch of choices? Were the people really nice and helpful?

Hi,
Thanks.
Actually, this is not my first boa. When I was a Senior in HS, I got a baby from a wholesaler. He had a badly kinked back so they gave him to me for $20. Unfortunately, he only lived about 2 months.

I will have to be strong and not succumb to the call of the boids

If I get any more snakes, I will need a bigger house!

Wow, my head is spinning from all the questions :spinner:
I'm suprised you haven't been there yet.
Yes, it was cool and they had tons of neat things.
No killer attack dogs, at least that I could see or hear.
I had gone there to look at the Hogg Is. and Columbian boas.
Yes, they were nice. This guy Sam helped us out and took us for a tour. We got to see lots, unfortunately not the hot building.

They had one building for the boas and pythons. They had a couple really big pythons. I saw a few Retic morphs that were cool looking.
We went to a second building that had invertebrates and some Geckos. Saw some Goldust Day Geckos, really pretty.
Finally, went to a third building with colubrids. This girl who was working there started to pull everything out to show us. I got to hold so many snakes I lost track. They had really cute Western Hognose and a tiny hatchling Eastern Hognose that was too adorable. I also got to hold a Mandarin Ratsnake, WOW. Another neat one was a Pampas Racer (Philodryas baroni).
To top it off, I got to meet Bill Love. He was there with another guy photographing snakes.

I think they are about a 2 hours drive west of me. Seriously considering checking out their Yellow Tailed Cribos. A pair of those are #1 on my priority list right now. May have to make a trip come tax time.

Nice Hogg by the way.

I am with you on that.

Congrats on getting a Hog! I can't believe someone actually took my advice... LOL
Make sure to post more pictures when he's settled in... he's pretty cute!

My sister has been wanting a boa, so at first we decided on a dumerils. Then I decided to look for something else since dums have a rep for being such crappy eaters, so Ive been steering her toward loc. boas. She loves the fire bellys but they are too hard to get a hold of. So, I'm just wondering, on average how much does a lone male go for and a lone female go for? Is there that much of a price difference?

thanks

The hog islands? I would say about $100-$150. I never bought one so I'm not sure but judging by the kingsnake classifieds that's about the average.
Glades Herp ones are $150.

Nice Hogg by the way.

I wonder if they'd let us Florida people go there for a field trip some Saturday. That'd be cool. Maybe after we all get our tax rebates this spring!!! Is that really, really happening??

I am sure if you said that to them they would say "Hell ya!!" Cause who is going to argue with you if your going to give them money. ;)
