hey all i havent been into corn snkaes to long but i am in a few biology classes so here is my first qustion when dealing with genes you know dominate and resisve is there a map like for color morphs like lets say i crossed a Blizzard Corn Snake and an amelistic corn snake is there any way of knowing what my chance are on throwing each color morph i mean is there a book or something that has a list of dominate and resesive traits

I am new here, so maybe you should wait until someone confirms/corrects me, but if you're interested int the outcomes, I recommend Mick's Cornsnake Progeny Predictor which can be found here. If you want to actually learn the basic genetics I would recommend "Cornsnake Morph Guide," which you can purchase from Kathy Love's Corn-Utopia under the book section.

You can calculate it yourself too.
Seach the board and you'll find lots of info on how to do it.

[I think if you breed Amel x Blizzard (without hets) you'd get all Amels het Charcoal]

goal

i would like to get a white snake with vertical stripes black would be awsome but very unlikely so i was thinking cross the blizzard with a Striped Corn Snake

Sounds like what I'd like to do with Blizzards and Motley gene someday. It'd be a long project for either of us, because Blizzards mask patterns almost totally.

ok so heres another question when i first saw a blizzard i thought it was albino so what is it realy it has no pigment and red eyes

now when u say normals het amel charcoal ( = het blizzard) so they will be hetrozy charcol amel so would they be charcol or amel ?

An albino (amelanistic) lacks black/grey/brown pigment. A charcoal lacks the red/orange/&virtually all yellow. So... when a snake is homozygous for both amel & charcoal (which is nicknamed blizzard), you take away black/grey/red/orange/brown/yellow... what are you left with? White.

Now, if you're after a white snake with black stripes... get a California King snake. About the closest you'd get with corn would be an anery stripe (grey base color with black stripe), or a ghost stripe (hypomelanistic anery stripe, reduced black pigment gives you a lighter overall appearance than an anery stripe). You can get a snow stripe which as a youngster with have a very faint stripe, which often vanishes as the snake matures. Crossing a blizzard with a normal striped corn will produce normal babies which are het. for amel, charcoal, and stripe.

Lastly, your normals het amel/charcoal question. What you'll have is a normal looking corn snake which is het. for both amel & charcoal. Breeding offspring like that together would produce normals, amels, charcoals, and blizzard. But before you breed any snakes, definetely grab the morph guide book mentioned and get to learnin'. Hope some of this helps. Happy Valentine's Day!!:)

Herpers use the term "albino" differently than other animal breeders who reserve "albino" -- derived from the Latin word "albus" meaning "white" -- for completely white animals with pink (uncolored) eyes.

I have no idea how herpers developed this specialized usage, but I found it very confusing when I first encountered it. :)

In mammals an albino is an animal that lacks the pigment melanin. The result is white with pink eyes.

With snakes an albino is an animal that lacks the pigment melanin. But the snake has other pigments that mammals do not.
