I tried some other options, but for the number of hatchlings I've been getting the past few seasons, I moved to glad-type sandwich boxes. They're not quite the pain the butt that deli cups were, but they're also not that efficient either. :shrugs: Oh well. As for a rack, I just screwed a bunch o' shelves together and tacked two strips of flexwatt to the back. Each shelf will hold 12 boxes and there's 11 shelves . . . just shy of a gross.
I cut the ruffled edges off approximately 1/4" up from the bottom and use 3-4 of them to line deli cups with when I ship them out.
7 females at an average of 15 eggs per . . . that's 105 eggs. If they go crazy, you could have as many as 140+. Be prepared! Besides, somewhere along the line you'll end up with more than 2-3 ready to breed next year!!
Trying to start off slow, learn what I can and go from there. Thanks DrizzT80 for the pic, I'm just not sure about having ALL those lids...I have NO doubt what you made is cheaper than buying a rack, but the rack is lidless. Right now I have 2 racks..one has the 15 qt tubs w/lids and my adults have the 32 qt without lids..the lidless is just easier IMO.:shrugs: ok thanks again for your input and I like the "rack" you made!!!!
I bought a Reptile Basics hatchling rack and was a little disappointed in the size of the trays, babies will not be able to stay in there very much beyond a couple of months (long enough to sell them).
