A few days ago I came home and went upstairs to change from work clothes. The top of Bourbon's viv was off. (my female corn) I assumed that the s.o. had her out.
A bit later I went into the basement to find the s.o. minus the snake. Long story short, he put her back into her viv, got distracted by his computer and left the top off.
*cry*
I was furious at first, and now I'm just heartbroken. I'm so worried I won't find her. But her scheduled feeding day is tomorrow, so I'm going to set up a bit of a 'trap' for you (3 liter bottle trap) baited w/ a mouse. Hopefully she'll come out of hiding.
I knew you all would understand how I'm feeling right now. And would be able to give me reasons to keep my hopes up... right?

mostly I wanted to vent. I'm just so upset right now.

There are plenty of reasons to remain hopeful, but I wouldn't expect to just trip over her. You should quintuple-check everything in her viv. When you're sure she's not there, do a very thorough search of everywhere within about 20 feet of the viv, especially along walls. If you give up on looking for her, put out the trap. You should place it somewhat close to her viv as they don't always stray far. I'd also set up a heating pad with a hide and some water very close to the trap. I'd place crinkly paper and/or plastic bags around the area so that you'll hear her if she's moving around. And keep an eye on those cats! Good luck.

Don't lose hope if you don't find her for a few weeks! I know that one of my males (a really beautiful snow), managed to get out when he wasn't even a full year old. He was gone for almost a month and a half before I found him literally on his last leg (...or would that be scale...?), because he hadn't had any water (besides from the cat dishes).

He'd stretched out near my front door. So also keep an eye on any windows/doors that might have ventilation that could trick a snake into thinking its better out there.

Don't give up hope! With feeding day that close if you don't find her this week you should in the next few! Watch that cat though!! Seriously, I've lost several snakes to my cat. -.-'' Also watch around your other snake cages.

I've had one male get out several times to curl up next to one of my other corns or even my RTB (probably because of the heat). -Shrugs- Just keep an eye open!

Snakes seem to have a water sense, so the first thing I do when I loose a snake, is PLUG ALL THE DRAINS!!!!!!!

I once found a snake that had escaped, at 3;30 in the morning, in my bathtub, when I went to go to the bathroom. I did not even know, that it had escaped, until I saw it in the tub.

Sprinkling talcum powder about helps you to track them down if they move through it...
Don't give up looking, they can be gone for months and still turn up fine....

SHE HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you all so much for your tips and encouragement. The s.o. redeemed himself by being the one to find her, she was curled up in our laundry basket, a bit dehydrated, and with a small cut on her side, but otherwise just fine.

I'm so happy!!

10 days and still nearby, that's nice. The one's that are found seem to be that way. It seems like they would go farther in search of food.

You made my day! I'm always happy when they turn up safe and sound. Thank God it was S.O. and not the C.A.T. that found her!lol

Me too! At first I think, "how the heck can you lose your snake?", but I always hope they'll turn up. I've even PM'd someone when there was no news in their thread for a while.

So glad you found her! We lost one once for over 3 months. I wrote her off as never being found.
Then our apartment building was being sprayed and I had to empty all the cupboards in the kitchen the night before they sprayed.
As we were putting everything back we FOUND her in our paper bags which were stored under the sink. Sadly she didn't make if for very long after that.
I made too many mistakes after we found her, which I found out after finding this forum.

I'm so glad you found your baby and everything is alright.

So glad you found her - congrats!
..."how the heck can you lose your snake?"...
I used to think that too...until I had an escapee...I see these threads now as a reminder to ALWAYS double-check the lid/lock. =)
