Meet Molly! My newly acquired Cali

LBoz

Original Curmudgeon
Spend a few hours with a breeder today at his store. I wanted desperately to walk out with a Maklot python, but the kids were all enthralled with this little lavender girl. I caved. She's six months old and has never eaten a F/T, so I gave her a live pinkie and she ate it immediately. Here are a few pics.

Congrats, on getting your very pretty Cali!

Even though she has been feeding, on live, you might want to try giving her f/t. Many times, a snake will accept it even though they have always eaten live .... Or is this a case where she has always refused f/t?

It's usually not hard to switch a snake to FT, especially when it's eating pinks! Instead of making a big deal out of it, just give her a nice hot FT pink next time and see what happens. She's gorgeous. A nice Cali is the sweetest snake...

Thanks guys! I only purchased one live pink because she was due to eat. This place is too far to drive for weekly live. I'm not worried. She's six months old, but the guy was so busy and damn if I didn't forget to have him weigh her.

I really want that Macklot python, though. :crying:

Gorgeous Cali! The beauty of Calis is that they will usually eat anything you put in front of them. Try an f/t pink. I'm willing to bet you'll be pleasantly surprised. Even my two full grown adult male wild caught Calis take f/t with no problem...and I only caught them this year.

Thanks! I'd love to see your w/c's. Well, I noticed today that she's doing her "Get me the H out of here!" routine, and I was surprised that there was not the slightest bump in her belly. Have I read correctly that they prefer smaller prey vs. one that might seem appropriate for a corn of similar size? I fed her a live pink last night and there's not the tiniest bump. Two pinks next week? I really need to get a weight on her, too. My neighbor is a chef. I'm sure she'd lend me her scale as long as I don't tell her what it's for!

Hey tyflier, have you heard from any strangers asking about FL kings?? I've been heavily nudging (or whacking him in the head) to contact you. Any word? Thanks again for offering to help him. Much much appreciated!

I just got home and have not yet checked my email. I will send you a PM with my private email address. Pass it along to him...

As for feeding...I don't think size is as much of an issue as some people let on. I feed my Cali kings prey that is equal to or slightly larger than the thickest part of their body. My corns I feed 1 1/2 times the thickest part of their body, so maybe a tad smaller, but...kings have a generally thicker body, so IMO it evens out.

I got a couple pics of my Calis around somewhere...I'll post them up. One is the very first w/c Cali I found out here with my daughter.

The other is a rescue of sorts. We found him with many, many wounds on his belly, a few broken ribs and blind in one eye from what appeared to be old shed. He has had a rough go of it and so we took him in to give him a hand getting better. He has shed once and removed most of the old eyecap, but still looks as though he has a serious cataract in the one eye. He may be permanently blind in that eye. His ribs have started to heal(read: they aren't sticking out at awkward angles anymore), and the wounds have closed up into pretty pink marks that will heal just nicely. I'll either find or take some pictures of both of them soon...
