A great day with birds of prey!

It's Jager time!
I had a day off today, so I decided to spend it wisely, combining two of my favorite things, nature and photography :)

Barn Own called Tootsie. I was sitting about 30ft away so the shots are a bit crappy. And this is my first time ever shooting birds.

Those are gorgeous! The second one down of the hawk looks like he's coming for you...."HEY LADY! No Paparazzi!!"

Birds of prey like that are beautiful majestic creatures!!!

nice pictures as well ;)

The additional photos were taken quite close up and with the flash so I was able to get some pretty shots :)

Thanks everyone.

Wow! You know how to get the beauty in everything you photograph!! Great work!! Hawks are my favorite bird so I am very very happy to see some beautiful shots of Harris and I love the barn owl as well :0)

lol..whenever I see a barn owl I think of the movie "Labyrinth" .hehehe

LOL I know what you mean. They are such elegant creatures though. I could watch them all day.

The Harris brushed the top of my head when flying around though. I didn't have time to duck, they are soooo fast.

I love Harris Hawks. They are still on my "must see in the wild" list.
Love all the photos - that owl is just incredible!

Thanks Katie. I didn't realise how hard it is to photograph birds, especially in flight!

I know what you mean. I try to get the pelicans around here all the time and the wings almost always come out in a blur.

Here's one I took of a Harris Hawk in flight at a Renaissance festival in Phoenix:

I had chosen a bad place to sit so I had really terrible lighting for just about all the photos I took that day unfortunately.

The lighting is fine! Next time, why not just speed up the shutter speed and you won't get white skys.

I think I was shooting at SS 400 f/8 for the birds because the sun was shining soooo brightly. And I needed a fast shutter anyway to catch those birds in action.
