Greta the Snow

Momma in the hiz-zouse!

Well, looky here! First clutch of 2009. She is literally laying them right now. 10 eggs and counting, looks like she has a couple to go.

I thought I had a few days still (she was blue with what I hoped was her pre-laying shed) so I didn't have her egg laying box in the cage. She shed this morning and started popping them out. The group in the middle of the box she just laid in her cage in the aspen. I carefully moved them to the damp sphagnum. I then SUPER carefully put her in there too. She has laid at least two more that I can see since I put her in there about an hour ago. I say at least since I don't want to disturb her to look under the moss.

The baby-daddy is Grendel, who is Opal het anery.

YAY! :crazy01:

Possible outcomes: amel, snow, opal, all with het(s) and maybe PEARL! Go away Murphy!

GREAT pics of the snow! Snows are really difficult to shoot as they tend to end up looking really dull, but your pics are great!

And good luck with the breeding project! Let's hope mr. Murphy doesn't show his face this time and you'll get a clutchfull of pretty babies with motley-pattern even. ;)

Congrats Dave! If you were closer I would have a cigar for you....

Chris O

Thanks Chris, I'm glad the snakes I got from you are doing so well. :D

Thanks!

Thanks! It will be interesting to see if the possible het motley proves out.

Wow. She sure is pretty.:)

Thanks!

Final egg count is 14 by the way. They all look good. Greta is still chilling at the bottom of the egg laying box but I have all the eggs in a rubbermaid for incubation. I figure I'll leave the laying box in with Greta till she has her post lay shed. Then I'll offer her a mouse.

Congratulations, Dave! It has to be a great feeling to have a clutch incubating from beauties that you raised yourself!

Yup, pretty sweet! Although this is my second clutch, last year I had a clutch from babies I bought from Kathy Love in '04.

Thanks Eric, have you started a progression thread yet on those guys you got from me?
No...I have not. I am such a poor photographer. I do best with my little Nikon Coolpix on objects that don't move. Like,....for years. LOL.
Did you see those Cemetery pics from Edgard, where I went after I left your house? (And I did note you have a cemetery right near your house.)
They are eating and shedding and looking great, though.

No, I didn't see the pics. And yes, there are actually two separate cemeteries within a block of my house... :D

Got a link to the pics?

That sounds a bit like me, Eric. The good camera goes to college with my son, as does the ability to use it well.

So here is a fresh update on Greta... she laid a clutch this year, it hatched May 10th. She weighs 395g today, fresh shed skin.

I am holding back one of her babies this year, a female Amel-Motley named Crystal.

So... Greta double clutched! Bad news is, I wasn't looking and she laid them in the water bowl. I totally missed that she was gravid again. I'm not sure how long they were in the water, but I pulled them out and put them in the incubator. We'll see!
