Hoping the egg laying was finally over, after a grand total of 25, I took Isabel in for an x-ray this morning. No eggs left! Yay!!

Unfortunately, the layathon could repeat itself at four-week intervals several more times...I may consider spaying her. Wonder how much that costs.
 
Poor isabel, at least it is over for now! I hope she has a speedy recovery, and is back to fighting weight soon!
 
Glad to see she is done for now at least. I can only imagine how scary it must have been not knowing what was wrong with her and then the onset of egg laying.
I think the cost would be worth it to have her spayed so that both of you don't have to repeat the experience. Poor girls!
 
I saw your egg laying post last night, I was a bit rushed so I didn't post then, but I'm glad Isabel layed all the eggs without any problems, I hope she doesn't repeat the performance though!

That's a cool pic, Nanci. I'm glad all of that is behind her, for now at least. It's wouldn't have occurred to me to spay a lizard, but if they can do it, and will spare from going through it again it sounds like a decent idea.

I would read up on having her spayed it can be pretty dangerous unfortunately last I heard most vets won't even consider it unless they have been egg bound because the survival rates are pretty low. All my lizards lay infertile clutches once sexually mature year round with the exception of winter months because its cooler, but temps are the only way to get them not to lay and in florida that gonna be hard. Cool x-ray though!
 
Well, my vet is very experinced (30 years) with lizards and birds. It's not something I would take lightly, though.
 
Oh, when we got home today, I soaked her in the tub again, and then she ate 15 silkies and five hornworms!
 
I'm glad to hear that Isabel is doing better. I know how much she means to you and you to her!

BTW, that's a really neat X-Ray. I'd probably frame it and put it on the wall. ;)
 
I have a few herp x-rays hanging up on a view box in my area, at work. People have to walk by them to get to the film library, so they get a lot of views. I have an older x-ray of Isabel, where it's mostly just her chest and abdomen, no extremities or tail or head. I heard one person say "Ok, that's an NI (Neonatal Intensive [Care Unit]) baby with bilateral pneumothoraces, but what's the other thing??" It's pretty entertaining...

I am still perplexed by the whole affair. Totally cool X-ray pics, by the way. You mean she could regularly repeat this? Whah....? Like Chris, spaying never occurred to me. Why not fix her up on a sexy date or two? Would a "real" cycle, including proper-egglaying, serve any purpose...like completing a natural cycle? Obviously I know little about CB lizards.
 
If there's a next time, and I'm sure there will be, I'll be happy to send you some! For scientific purposes. No licking.
