So i took Jasmine to the Vet. They were all great. Jasmine has a small upper RI infection and possibally worms so she is being treated with Fortaz and Panacur. The vet was great she said my husbandry was excellent and also said most likly she came down with her illness during shipping. She was veery smart and enjoyed talking to me. I talked to he about appetite boosters and she said only one snake must have UVB/UVA and that is Scrub Pythons but that it will never hurt a snake to get UVA/UVB and that Jasmine will benifit from it.

Congrats on the successful Vet visit. I hope all the treatments go great. I am not sure about the bulbs though, but good luck!

The vet said that the worms test was inconclusive so I was given the panacur. She said thatif a mouse was laying out to long and the snake ate it, there are many factors. When I go back for a recheck I will ask

Every snake that I have had tested for worms has had worms, definitely. Two were WC, two were not. And Isabel the dragon, too!

Glad you caught the RI early, David.

Where did the worms come from...?

I was wondering the exact same thing.....
I mean, worms don't just materialize out of thin air.....

I agree where did the worms come from?? Even if the mouse was laying around for a bit the worms had to come from something?? This was a captive bred snake, fed captive bred mice.. so where did the worms come from? And being forced to take it to the vet so soon after you got it?? well then you got your snake not from a Rep-able person.

Jim,
It is most likly not parasites. They ran a est and it came back negative. It was a precaution to medicate. Hundreds of things could have caused i even an outdoor photoshoot. I am not gonna stop buying from Zerkle Reptiles. They are very rep able.

If she has a respiratory infection, then either Zerkle Reptiles is in fact not as reputable as you think they are, or your husbandry isn't quite perfected yet (like you said the vet told you, and I don't really have a reason to doubt you at this moment). And you initially said that the test for parasites was inconclusive, now you're saying it was negative? If it was negative, I don't think they would have put her on the Panacur, unless they're just trying to take your money. :shrugs:

I'm glad you caught the issue early, I hope it clears up easily for you and that she has been in quarantine (and not in contact with any of your other snakes, whether by direct contact or through indirect contact by your body/any tools you use for feeding/etc).

Well it was one fecal sample she suggested Panacur and I said if there was any chance it could help I would go for it. Also the RI was most likley caused by Shipping and teh house overheating. Our house overheated about 2 weeks ago. it got like 90 in the house. Zerkle reptiles is very reputable and I will continue buying from them

OK, I can't even believe I'm doing this.

FinFang had a bout of regurging, I'm not entirely sure he's "cured" but I'm feeding him smaller mice than he could probably handle for...probably the rest of his life. He just randomly can't keep things down sometimes, even after the panacur treatment. And yes, his temps are fine. No other snake of mine has ever regurged.

Which means yes, I did take him to the vet. He's never had a live mouse (his breeder is a member of the local reptile club and this form, does not feed live) and I don't leave mice laying about either. It's just one of those things, I guess he's sensitve or something. Anyway, at least it's under control now. But this is all a little OT.

So, after he went to vet, and tested positive for parasites, I got this message from a local vet (well, not local enough, I had to go to a closer vet who isn't as reptile savvy but still pretty good) who is also in the reptile club, has an interest in reptiles and *actually* owns a few:

"Oh and one other thing. Snake fecals often times have parasites that are from the mouse and not from the snake. Can be very hard to distinguish between the too. In other words just because your snake is testing positive for feces, doesn't mean it has a problem."

So there you go. I didn't ask what his sources were, but I can't think of a better reptile vet in the whole province than this guy. I mean, he joined the reptile club! How often does that happen?

In short, show me a snake who tests negative for parasites, then maybe you can question snakmasters husbandry. And even then, if FinFang can get them, I guess any snake can.

*edit to add
In the time it too me to post this, the snake went from "having parasites" to "inconclusive" to "negative". I already regret defending him. Oy.
