KSB courtship!

Well after seven years of having kenyan sand boas, I've finally seen some breeding activity!

I bought a pair in 2002, but the male never seemed interested in the female. A year ago I got another male, and he's been cruising around a lot lately so I decided to introduce them. They haven't figured it out yet, but he sure seemed interested! She did too, I'm pretty sure I saw some tail lifts.

And wow, is she a big lady. Go little guy!

Man is he gonna have a big head after that love connection! Can't wait to see the outcome of this. I think you should buy him a pipe and a robe! Will this be his first notch on his bedpost?

XD Yup it's his first time, quite the feat!
But boy, KBS courtship is slooooooow. I left them together overnight, hopefully he got it figured out. At least he seemed to know which end to go for!

The male will court until the female finally gives in. It may take weeks.;)

I hope she doesn't accidentally roll over on him in her sleep! It's gotta be tough for him to tell which end is which!

W00t! I figured Cheets was gravid because she was basking on her heat panel a lot. I checked on her today and found this!

17 babies!!!

That settles it! I gotta get my KSB Fran a man now! I want a pile o' babies like that! Do sand boas eat their young if you don't separate them immediately????? And it looks like she shed too! They're so cute! I wanna hold them all at once and feel them wriggle!

It is really neat!
They don't eat their offspring, leastwise, Cheets certainly didn't. I think they've been there a few days - as I understand it the birthing ought to be rather messy but I've cleaned out her cage and couldn't find any gunk. Anyway the babies were all dry!
Cheets also managed not to eat her boyfriend, even though I ended up housing them together a month on the advice of a breeder :)

More photos!

Prince with one of his offspring. I bet the litter weighs more than he does :p

WOW! A big litter from a big girl! I could swear I read somewhere that KSBs averaged 5-7 per litter. So much for THAT! =D

Gosh. I'm so envious of that pile of babies. I'm going to have to get a mate for China. You know, after I've finally gotten around to sexing him/her. Or skip a step and find me a pretty adult pair at the expo this month. I think I just set a goal for myself! =]

Congrats on the babies!!! They're so cute and little! I hope they all eat well for you when the time comes!

Wow, this proves a theory. " Its not the size of the dog in the fight, rather, the size of the fight in the dog."

Awesome, congrats. Have you thought of changing the little guys' name from "PRINCE" to "KING".

Ciao
