Gunnie the carpet finally settled down and isn't as bitty now. This was her first time outside and seemed to enjoy it.

blacktip 05-03-2018 01:58 PM

What's Rhino-Jacks personality like? I've heard the dwarfs could be quite grumpy.

67temp 05-03-2018 02:26 PM

Honestly I don't think retics are as bad as most people make them out to be. I would really relate it to owning an energetic, food driven, and highly intelligent dog. Similar to a border collie. They need constant training and working with otherwise they will cause trouble and call you on your mistakes as a handler. If the only time the snake gets handled is when it's getting fed it associates you with feeding time. My guy isn't hook trained, I just reach in and grab him. I try to take him out of his enclosure daily (except after feeding) even if it is for only 2 minutes. I feed him in his normal viv but he will never see me bringing him the prey. I normally take him out for handling then with my free hand I toss the f/t in his enclosure. As he's going back in his enclosure he suddenly realizes food is waiting there for him. They will easily learn your routine. Me approaching, opening the door, or reaching in is not related to food. He has only struck out once and that was in defense because he was sleeping, in a corner and was suddenly disturbed by me cleaning his enclosure.

Jack the sd retic, fresh out of shed.

And Gunnie the granite IJ looking fat after just eating a mouse.

MysticExotics 06-20-2018 05:43 AM

Beautiful animals! Who's the Granite from?

67temp 06-20-2018 07:23 AM

I got her from Jason Baylin but it was a joint pairing between him and Owen McIntyre. I know Owens dam came from Paul Harris.

I'm also on a waiting list for an axanthic IJ from Eric Burke, and a purple albino dwarf retic from Garrett Hartle

kdickens 06-23-2018 04:23 AM

I love Bodie! That's amazing.

I've been waiting for this guy for a few months now and the weather was finally nice enough to have him shipped. He's an axanthic IJ or super axanthic Papuan carpet python as they are now called.

Just a few outdoor pics before he went into quarantine. I still need to find a name for him.

Very nice, our carpet python was around 20 years old when he passed. Neat snakes man :grin01:

YNeed to get by sometime again for pics and cage inspiration. You and Mindy are doing it up right, sweet collection bud :grin01:

67temp 10-12-2018 12:28 PM

Thanks Chris, you're are welcome to swing by any time. If you don't still have my number pm me. A rack system would have taken up a lot less space but I really enjoy seeing them in the wall of tanks out on display.

These two were supervising as I was cleaning their tubs.

Jack is nearing 2yo and currently weighing in at 737g a few days after eating a weaned rat and a peep. So yes some retics are corn snake size.

Dragonling 02-07-2019 03:41 PM

A guaranteed super dwarf is the only kind of retic I would want to own lol. I always hear that the smaller ones are more feisty though. What are the temperaments of yours like?

MysticExotics 02-07-2019 06:48 PM

Your Granite is looking awesome!
Are any of your IJ's from Nick?

They really aren't that bad. If I hadn't just cleaned my rodents I'd take a video of them being handled. I'll see if I can take a video In the next day or two. Here is a prior description I gave. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/sho...51&postcount=8

Thank you, sadly I'm down to just the granite. She came from Jason Baylin and Owen mcyntire. I think they got their breeders from the same place Nick did which is Paul Harris over in the UK.

The axanthic passed in early December. Necropsy revealed that it was due to his kidneys. He came from Eric burke, who got his pair from Paul. Nick bought a clutch mate to him. I was recently looking at Nick's site since he just posted a bunch of ijs.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.
I had to sell all of my Morelia, with my pending move. I will be getting back into them after I move back to eastern WA, after I get settled, which will be super easy, since Nick lives over there. LOL

This was my Granite female. She's 25% WC outcross. I'm sure by the time I'm ready to add them back in, he'll have the OC % higher.
She was one of the last ones I sold. She went to a friend of mine who's had her on breeder loan to prove out a couple possible het Granite males, I offered to sell her to my friend for a really great price.

The last IJ I had went to Nick. He was my favorite out of all of my Morelia.

When he was 2yrs old, his coloring was amazing! He muddied up as he got older, but I still loved his coloring.

Here are some short handling vids to show how his temperament is. Notice I'm not even using a hook.

It's never easy loosing an animal. A little over a week ago I had to have one of my dogs put down that was 14yo. When are you planning to move? I recently just moved 1.5 hrs and that really made me wish I kept my collection in a rack instead of tanks.

I think nick currently has some het granites that are listed as 62% outcrossed. I'm trying to decided if I want to go for another axanthic ij or a pair of captive hatched ij's from an Indonesian farm (just to get new blood into the hobby).

Both of your carpets were pretty nice looking. Have you been to a carpet fest or thought about going?

I'm waiting on my house to be built, then I can sell my house here and move. I will be moving across the state.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog too. :(

I coordinated the first NW Carpet Fest here. :) I haven't been in a couple years, due to my schedule though.

I want to get Inlands again, once I get settled. I love Inlands, Nick has some really nice ones!

67temp 02-08-2019 12:57 PM

How do inlands compare to the ijs as far as size and care?

About the same size or a little smaller, full grown. They don't seem as sensitive to temp fluctuations as IJ's can. If I recall, they need cooler temps for breeding.
They're more active, for sure!
