het question...

I've never bred before, but am starting to think about it....
anyway, my q is that if one parent is say, het for motley, does that mean that the offspring will NOT show the motley trait, but might carry the trait, or does it mean that some of the offspring MIGHT show the trait?

I know, I'm retarded sometimes, but I've never had it explained in a way that I understand it....lol.

If only one parent is het. Motley, than the offspring won't show the pattern and may carry it with a possibility of 50%.

Example: M = normal, m = motley

Dad: Mm (het. Motley)
Mom: MM (normal)

All Possibilitys:
mM (het. Motley)
MM (normal)

Because you can'T distingush the animals by their look, which is true for recessive traits, you can only give a chance that you pick out the right one with 50%.
After testbreedings, you know for sure which is and which is not.
