After her post lay shed yesterday, I weighed her. She's down to 593 grams and actually looks pretty good despite having just laid eggs. She finally has some definition in her neck. She's still a pretty short snake, but I think she's a more appropriate weight now.

The obvious slugs went moldy as expected, so I tossed them. The two whiter ones haven't molded yet, but candling them just shows straw yellow, although one of them looks like it might possibly have some veins on the bottom. I still think they're both infertile, but I'll hold on to them for now until they're definitely bad.

Bummer about the slugs.
Are you going to try for next year?

Yeah, I think so. I'm was thinking about trying to reintroduce my male over the next few weeks and see if she has any interest. Do people usually reintroduce a male for a double clutch? My previous breedings (one double clutch and one single) I didn't reintroduce a male because I wasn't looking to try to make a double happen.

If she recovers well from laying, you care pair her again.
I have one female I produced, now owned by a dear friend that double clutches every year, even if not paired with a male again.

Pairing should help increase your chances of fertile clutch.

Thanks for the info! Turns out Gertrude wasn't done laying after all...

Despite her still having a nice moist lay box, she laid several more slugs inside one of her hides. Thankfully however, I think she is finally done because she eagerly ate an adult mouse today.

This snake is so weird.

They never seem to follow the rules, right? LOL
