My cornsnake recently just escaped his cage, but seriously how..? My lid isnt on tight, but its physically impossible he lifted it and got away because the lid is weighed down by a heavy ass hammer. I know snakes are escape artists... but wtf...
A glass aquarium without a locking screen top is never escape-proof. I strongly recommend Critter Cages if you are keeping a single specimen in glass. It doesn't take much of an opening for a baby corn to emancipate itself, as you've seen. Sorry to hear this, and I wish you luck in finding him!
a snakes entire body is pretty much solid muscle. a "big ass hammer" isn't much for a sub adult or adult corn to lift. especially with the uneven weight dispersion... all it would have taken is for a good push on a corner or side to provide just enough gap to squeeze through.
I know a boa isn't a corn, but when I first adopted my boa she actually managed to push the lid up quite a bit on her enclosure and that was with 4 clamps... I had to buy more for better pressure dispersion. That's just an example of what a healthy snake can do if it really wants to.

Weight distribution.... I need to test how muchh strength it would take on the corners
I had a boa bust the glass on her tank simply by shoving herself in the corner and exerting all her body muscle into it. Cracked the glass, popped the broken pieces out and out she went. I found her later wrapped around the toilet.
Snakes are capable of serious muscle power when they are determined
