Husbandry and Basic CareGeneral stuff about keeping and maintaining cornsnakes in captivity.
I have a yearling female Carolina corn which I DON'T hope to breed from next year as she is too small and young (maybe next time). She is still in her small vivarium and I plan to buy two three footers later this year. The reason I am buying two is because I want to buy a male to breed with her the next time around.
I'm very exited about breeding and I've been reading LOADS about it and would really like to give it a try this year. So, I've been thinking and came up with a bit of an idea:
What if I buy an adult male AND and adult female? I could maybe house the two females together and the male separately. This way, I could breed from the adult female this year and my younger snake next year.
That brings me to my question: Could I safely house two female corns together without them ripping eachother apart? Does anyone do this already? Tell me of your experiences.
I was thinking of housing two females together(since I don't want them to breed because the one I have is too young).
I heard on another forum that it is ok but feed them seperatley.
If you feed them together they might get hold of the same mouse and the bigger one will eat the smaller one.
2 female shouldn't give you much trouble about being housed together. If the yearling is REALLY small compared to the 3 footer, you might not want to put them together because she could get really stressed.
Like srw said, always feed them separately. And make sure you quarantine the new female before putting her in with your Carolina. You wouldn't want her to get sick from something the new girl was carrying.
There's no problem with the size of my yearling as she is about two feet long now, being heavily fed and I don't plan on getting the new snake until late September or there abouts.
I keep a harem, have 2 females now and one male. They all get on great and are often found cuddled up together! Just make sure you provide at least 2 hides so they dont have to share if they dont want! Also, like everyone else said, feed separately. I feed mine on separate days too so that if there are any regurges I know which one to keep my eye on!
