Last year we had roughly 39 resident snakes and around 80ish, give or take some, hatchling snakes from our breeding?
Plus 4 box turtles, 7 resident geckos and some offspring from them. We track our reptile related costs but not all of it is calculated based only on the snakes, so some of these expenses include all the reptiles.
Our food bill for 2015 was: $1,166.28
Our medical, only one sick snake, was: $62.02
The electricity for the reptile room, the whole room, not just the heating elements on cages, was: $76.86
And the gas heating was $19.32 for that room.
Unfortunately Habitat is all together. So that would include some one time items like cages and cage furniture, etc, along with substrate and other housing things. So habitat was: $932.22 in total.
Our vet is pretty reasonable. All visits have a base price of $45 per animal and medications, etc, are generally not very expensive. I don't really trust any of our local vets but the closest reptile expert I know of is two and a half hours away in another state. I've been told that the minimum price to get in to see him is around $500 and up. The local vet works decently for most things we encounter with the reptiles but if it was something big, we'd go to the expert.
