I got a baby mandarin (amel kastanie) last fall that was listed het anery, het red factor but now I see red factor is co dominant.
Does this mean he should show increased red if he has the gene? I haven't been able to find a red factor mandarin to compare him with.
His mother was red factor, dad was not

Red factor is incomplete dominant, and it is indeed the case where even a single gene is/should be a visual.
I've seen some people use het red factor and that's fine
I'd ask if it was a single gene or a double gene red factor.
When you bred a single gene red factor to a non red factor then I believe only half the babies will be single gene red factor(or het)
If you breed a double gene red factor then all offspring are het red factor or also called coral
Red factor - incomplete dominant - meaning that a single gene snake is in between the appearance a homozygous red factor and a normal. It goes normal, red factor (more red than normal), homozygous red factor (much much more red than single gene red factor)
Redcoat- recessive
Codom would be the snake having patches of increased red AND patches of normal color as both the normal gene and the red factor gene would be co (equally) dominant. Red factor is not a codominant trait. Corns at this time do not have any codom traits.
If Don said your snake is het for redcoat, it is carrying a recessive trait and will not show it visually.
